{"id":52305,"date":"2017-04-03T16:47:18","date_gmt":"2017-04-03T20:47:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=52305"},"modified":"2017-04-03T16:47:18","modified_gmt":"2017-04-03T20:47:18","slug":"2-novels-1-short-story-collection-and-two-books-of-poetry-short-listed-for-2016-gratiaen-prize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=52305","title":{"rendered":"2 Novels, 1 Short Story Collection and Two Books of Poetry Short Listed for 2016 Gratiaen Prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Harischandra Gunaratna<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The much-awaited short list of Gratiaen Prize 2016 was announced at the British Council auditorium yesterday evening at a simple ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>The short listed works are:<\/p>\n<p>1. &#8220;Introspection&#8221;(poetry) by Jean Arasanayagam<\/p>\n<p>2. &#8220;The Memory of Loss&#8221;(novel) by Rizvina Morseth de Alwis<\/p>\n<p>3. &#8220;Short eats&#8221; (short stories) by Shehan Karunatilaka<\/p>\n<p>4. &#8220;Stories&#8221; (novel) by Charulatha Abeysekera Thewarathanthri, and<\/p>\n<p>5. &#8220;Borrowed Dust a collection of poems&#8221; by Vivimarie VanderPoorten<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>British Council\u2019s Country Director Keith Davies, addressing the gathering said there had been 55 entries this year and he was proud to be a part of the memorable event. &#8220;The event has stood the test of time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The coveted Gratiaen Prize is awarded each year to the best submitted creative work in English written by a Sri Lankan writer resident in Sri Lanka.
