{"id":51991,"date":"2017-03-15T19:19:12","date_gmt":"2017-03-15T23:19:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=51991"},"modified":"2017-03-15T19:19:12","modified_gmt":"2017-03-15T23:19:12","slug":"senior-presidents-counsel-romesh-de-silva-leads-team-of-lawyyers-appearing-for-arjuna-mahendran-in-treasury-bond-scam-probe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=51991","title":{"rendered":"Senior President&#8217;s Counsel Romesh de Silva Leads Team of Lawyyers Appearing for Arjuna Mahendran in Treasury Bond Scam Probe."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><br \/>\nBy Sarath Dharmasena and Shyam Ganewatte<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A team of lawyers appearing for the main respondent in the alleged bond scam, former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran was yesterday granted permission by the Presidential Court of Inquiry probing the issue, following a request made by the main Counsel appearing for Mahendran, President\u2019s Counsel Romesh de Silva under section 16 of the Presidential Commission Act.<\/p>\n<p>De Silva made the request three weeks after the Commission had commenced its proceedings and he submitted a list of names of lawyers who would appear on behalf of the former CB Governor.<\/p>\n<p>The Defence Counsel said Mahendran had been questioned by the CID sleuths for three days and he couldn\u2019t say how much longer it would take.<\/p>\n<p>De Silva PC said Mehendran had instructed him to inform the Commission that he wished the team of lawyers to watch his interests at the Commission\u2019s proceedings on the controversial bond sales.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>After the Commission granted permission Counsel Romesh de Silva left the chamber while other members of his team of lawyers remained there till the day\u2019s proceedings concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman of the Commission Justice K. T. Chithrasiri said the CID was questioning Mahendran, but he was not being harassed by the sleuths.<\/p>\n<p>Former Superintendent of the Public Debt Department of the Central Bank Raja Dhammika Nanayakkara concluded testifying before the Commission after three days yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Monetary Board Secretary of the Central Bank K. A. Karunaratne will testify before the Commission today.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission comprises Justice K. T. Chithrasiri, Chairman, Justice Prasannna N. Jayawardena and Retired Deputy Auditor General K.
