Wigneswaran says that the international community has to intervene to sort out issues cropping up in the Northern Province from time to time, as the government has no control over them.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>He made this remark following talks held with Baroness Joyce Anelay, United Kingdom&#8217;s Minister of State for the Commonwealth and the UN at the Foreign &#038; Commonwealth Office, in Jaffna yesterday. <\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The NPC Chief Minister told the visiting minister that the people in the North have been seeking an international probe into alleged war crimes committed during the final phase of the war as a majority of the people in the province has no confidence in such an inquiry being led by a domestic mechanism.<\/p>\n<p>He had told Baroness Anelay that such a probe should be conducted with the participation of international Judges. Wigneswaran also stressed on the importance of initiating a programme to improve the lives of the families of scores of war widows in the North in his talks with the UN official.<\/p>\n<p> Baroness Anelay had told the NPC Chief Minister that a sum of 1.4 million pounds will be donated to facilitate de-mining in the Northern Province during the next three-years. She had also insisted on the importance of resettling displaced people in the North while further strengthening the security situation there.
