SLFP Chief Ministers of Provincial Councils yesterday asked their PC members not to participate in the Pada Yatra protest march organised by the Joint Opposition from Kandy to Colombo, starting today.<\/p>\n

Addressing the media at the party headquarters in Colombo, six chief ministers from Western, Southern, North Western, North Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva Provinces warned that the SLFP Central Committee would take disciplinary action against those attending the protest march.<\/p>\n

Chief Minister of North Central Province Peshala Bandara Jayaratne said several changes in the party positions would be made after the pada yatra organised by the Joint Opposition.<\/p>\n

He said SLFP parliamentarians had been informed not to attend the pada yatra at the party\u2019s central committee meeting.<\/p>\n

“If they go ahead disregarding the party orders, they will be punished,” Jayaratne said adding that the party had tolerated them on previous occasions for violating party orders, including the instance of them attending the May Day rally at Kirulapone, while avoiding party organised rally in Galle.<\/p>\n

CM Jayaratne said the country could expect more violence after the forthcoming local government election if former President Mahinda Rajapaksa\u2019s clan contested under a separate banner instead of the UPFA.<\/p>\n

Jayaratne said the JO already predicted the second place if they contested the local government election from a separate party and that meant they had already conceded victory to the UNP.<\/p>\n

Chief Minister of Southern Province Shan Wijayalal de Silva said governments had not been toppled by pada yatra in the past, but there was no need to topple the present government at the moment as it was functioning with the consent of two main political parties of the country.<\/p>\n

Sabaragamuwa Province Chief Minister Mahipala Herath, Western Province Chief Minister Isura Dewapriya, North Western Province Chief Minister Dharmasiri Dassanayake and Uva Province Chief Minister Chamara Sampath Dassanayake also addressed the media and SLFP Ministers of Provincial Councils also attended the media briefing.
