State Minister of Highways Dilan Perera yesterday said the SLFP would win the forthcoming local government election together with party strongmen and people who gathered at Kirulapone and Galle May Day rallies.<\/p>\n

Addressing the media at the party headquarters on Darley Road, Perera said SLFPers who had attended the two May Day rallies wanted to unite former Presidents Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, Mahinda Rajapaksa and President Maithripala Sirisena to achieve victories at future elections.<\/p>\n

Perera said the SLFP would not take disciplinary action against its MPs who attended Joint Opposition Kirulapone May Day rally ignoring the party\u2019s May Day rally in Galle.<\/p>\n

He said SLFP parliamentarians who had attended the Kirulapone May Day rally had not violated the party\u2019s discipline except a few.<\/p>\n

“President Maithripala Sirisena\u2019s old speech was aired at the Kirulapone May Day rally despite the Opposition of most SLFP parliamentarians there,” Perera said. Those who were responsible for tarnishing the image of the party leader would be punished, he said.<\/p>\n

The State Minister claimed that crowds at the Kirulapone and Galle rallies were ten times bigger than the one at the UNP\u2019s rally at Campbell Park and JVP\u2019s rally at BRC grounds.<\/p>\n

Perera said some were criticising recent appointments of SLFP organisers by President Sirisena, but the same thing had been done under the former Presidents Rajapaksa and Kumaratunga when they held the party leadership.<\/p>\n

Minister of Labour and Trade Union Affairs W. D. J. Seneviratne said the party had celebrated the May Day as two groups, but the massive crowds that attended both rallies proved the unity of two groups would be beneficial the party.<\/p>\n

He said they had joined the government for a short period, according to an SLFP Central Committee decision, but they needed to form their own government with the unity of both groups. Seneviratne said first they would find the reason for the separation and would heal the rift.<\/p>\n
