{"id":46023,"date":"2016-04-05T15:36:50","date_gmt":"2016-04-05T19:36:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=46023"},"modified":"2016-04-05T15:36:50","modified_gmt":"2016-04-05T19:36:50","slug":"fsp-leader-kumar-gunaratnams-mother-rajamani-gunaratnam-fearful-over-her-sons-safety-in-anuradhapura-prison","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=46023","title":{"rendered":"FSP Leader Kumar Gunaratnam&#8217;s Mother  Rajamani Gunaratnam Fearful Over  Her Son&#8217;s Safety in Anuradhapura Prison"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Chamodi Gunawardana <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) politburo member Kumar Gunaratnam\u2019s mother Rajamani Gunaratnam yesterday urged the Government to provide Sri Lankan citizenship for her son. <\/p>\n<p>Speaking at a media briefing organised by the FSP she claimed she was afraid for her son\u2019s life after he was transferred to the Anuradapura Prison from the Kegalle Prison.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was sentenced to one year in jail for violating immigration law and detained at the Kegalle Prison. Now he has been transferred to Anuradapura Prison which is really far away from our residence. Therefore I am unable to visit him regularly,\u201d she claimed.<\/p>\n<p>Rajamani insisted the Government\u2019s decision to move Gunaratnam to Anuradapura from Kegalle would threaten his safety.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Rajamani recalled she had lost her elder son who was the Convener of Inter-University Students\u2019 Federation (IUSF) in 1989 due to his political engagements. She said she feared she would lose her younger son Kumar too.<\/p>\n<p>Rajamani alleged before the trial of Kumar, the relevant officials promised her to give citizenship for him after the legal process came to end.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we submitted Kumar\u2019s citizenship application earlier the officials said they cannot accept it due to his pending trials. Now it has ended but he was sentenced to jail. Therefore the officials can grant citizenship for him as promised before,\u201d she claimed. <\/p>\n<p>She also said; \u201cMy son was born in Kegalle and did his primary education within Kegalle. I believe there is no such obstacle to give citizenship for him.
