{"id":45070,"date":"2016-02-09T01:32:57","date_gmt":"2016-02-09T05:32:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=45070"},"modified":"2016-02-09T01:32:57","modified_gmt":"2016-02-09T05:32:57","slug":"11-member-multi-ethnic-consulation-task-force-to-help-implement-unhrc-resolution-of-oct-1st-2015-on-sri-lanka","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=45070","title":{"rendered":"11 Member Multi-ethnic Consulation Task Force to help Implement UNHRC Resolution of Oct 1st 2015 on Sri Lanka"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><br \/>\nBy PK Balachandran<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> The Sri Lankan government has set up an 11-member multi-ethnic Consultation Task Force (CTF), comprising leading lights of civil society, to aid the implementation of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) resolution of October 1, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>A top source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Express on Monday, that the CTF will elicit views from the public through its website, and also go round the island to get the views of those unable to use the web.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Not Advisory<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The source made it clear that the CTF will not be advising the government in any way, but will only act as a conduit for the public\u2019s views on the Joint Mechanism to ensure accountability, and other aspects of the UNHRC resolution, which had been jointly sponsored by Lanka and the US.<\/p>\n<p>The whole process will begin on February 12 with the launch of the CTF website and conclude in three months. A report will be submitted to the Lankan government, which will then make it public.<\/p>\n<p>The members of the CTF are: Manori Muttutuwegama (chairperson), Dr.Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu (Secretary), Gamini Viyangoda, Prof.Sithralega Mounaguru, Visakha  Dharmadasa, Dharmasiri Bandaranayake, Dr.Farzana Haniffa, Shantha Abhimansingham, Mirak Raheem, Prof.Daya Somasundaram, and Gameela Samarasinghe.<\/p>\n<p>Pablo de Greiff, UN Special Rapporteur on Truth, Justice and Reparations, had visited Lanka recently at the invitation of the Lankan government to discuss the implementation of the resolution.
