It would sign a totally new economic partnership agreement, he added.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement would be on economic and technological partnership and it was being formulated, the Premier said making a special statement in Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>He said the agreement would cover only goods and technological aspects and it would not be extended to professional services.<\/p>\n<p>There was no intention of signing the CEPA by another name contrary to rumours spread by some sections of the society, he said.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Wickremesinghe said that he would never agree with some sections the Rajapaksa government had incorporated into the CEPA &#8220;But some of those holding the top positions of the Government Medical Officers\u2019 Association still issue statements to mislead their membership and the general public. They continue to act like slaves of the Rajapaksa regime,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Prime Minister said that the GMOA top brass had remained silent when the Rajapaksa regime was making preparations to sign the CEPA. &#8220;We have rejected the CEPA in toto because it contains sections detrimental to the national interest,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The government had informed India that Sri Lanka was opposed to the inclusion of services in the agreement that was to be signed. India had accepted Sri Lanka\u2019s position, Prime Minister Wickremesinghe said, assuring that the government intended to reach a consensus with all Sri Lankan political parties and trade unions and include their suggestions as well in the pact. <\/p>\n<p>He said such economic and technological cooperation agreements would also be signed with countries like China and Singapore.
