M. Swaminathan in the presence of TNA parliamentarian M. A. Sumanthiran and Commissioner General of Prisons at the Welikada Prisons on Monday evening.<\/p>\n<p>Minister Swaminathan told The Island that over 153 suspects taken into custody under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) had been engaged in the hunger strike. Of these 28 were in Anuradhapura prison, nine in Batticaloa, 12 in Bogambara and 104 in Magazine prisons. Of 104 in the Magazine prison, 24 had been given bail on Monday.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I attended a meeting at the Prime Minister\u2019s office in Colombo and advised the Attorney General to work out an arrangement to release the Tamil political prisoners in several batches and send them to the Commissioner General of the Rehabilitation Bureau so that they could undergo the rehabilitation process. The AG agreed and there would be no court cases against them. I conveyed this message to the prisoners and they were happy with that arrangement.
