{"id":43122,"date":"2015-09-17T00:04:49","date_gmt":"2015-09-17T04:04:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=43122"},"modified":"2015-09-17T00:04:49","modified_gmt":"2015-09-17T04:04:49","slug":"sri-lanka-informs-un-that-govt-takes-note-of-the-report-and-recommendations-made-by-the-un-high-commissioner-for-human-rights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=43122","title":{"rendered":"Sri Lanka Informs UN  that Govt Takes Note of the Report and Recommendations made by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Government of Sri Lanka has informed the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights that it takes note of the Report of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (A\/HRC\/30\/61), and the recommendations made by the High Commissioner.<\/p>\n<p>The full  Text of the response sent by the Sri Lankan Government to the UNHRC is as follows:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Permanent Mission of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other International Organisation in Switzerland presents its compliments to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and with reference to the unedited advance copy of the Report of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (A\/HRC\/30\/61), and the Report of the OHCHR Investigation on Sri Lanka (OISL) (A\/HRC\/30\/SRP.2), has the honour to forward herewith a copy of a Note Verbale No. UN\/HR\/1\/30 dated 15th September 2015, received from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, containing the comments of the Government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Permanent Mission of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the United Nations Officer at Geneva and other International Organizations in Switzerland avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights the assurance of its highest consideration.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><br \/>\nRef. No. UN\/HR\/1\/30<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka presents its compliments to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for the Human Rights (OHCHR) and with reference to the latter\u2019s Note dated September 10, 2015 conveying an unedited advance copy of the Report of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (A\/HRC\/30\/61) and the Report of the OHCHR Investigation on Sri Lanka (OISL) (A\/HRC\/30\/SRP.2) has the honour to submit the following comments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Government of Sri Lanka, Takes note of the Report of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (A\/HRC\/30\/61), and the recommendations made by the High Commissioner;<\/p>\n<p>Is pleased and encouraged by the High Commissioner\u2019s recognition of the efforts of the new Government since the Presidential election of 8 January 2015 in dealing with issues of concern for the people of Sri Lanka relating to human rights, rule of law, governance, justice, institutional and legal reform and reconciliation;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAppreciates the recognition given to the Government\u2019s constructive engagement with the High Commissioner and OHCHR aimed at addressing post-conflict issues that impact on achieving reconciliation. \u201cRemains firm in its conviction to take all possible measures to ensure non recurrence in keeping with the mandate given by the people of the country twice this year, 2015, at the Presidential election in January and the Parliamentary election in August.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWill ensure dialogue and wide consultations with all stakeholders especially the victims of conflict, communities, political parties, civil society representatives, the military as well as the High Commissioner and his Office bilateral partners, and other international organisations in putting in place mechanisms and measures that will facilitate the right to know, right to justice, reparations and guaranteeing non-recurrence with the aim of achieving reconciliation and durable peace to ensure long-term progress of all her citizens.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTakes note also of the Report of the OHCHR Investigation on Sri Lanka (OISL), recognises fully that this Report represents a human rights investigation and not a criminal investigation, and will ensure that its content as well as recommendations receive due attention of the relevant authorities including the new mechanisms that are envisaged to be set up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRemains open to continuing its engagement with the High Commissioner and his Office as well as the systems and procedures of the Human Rights Council, aimed at taking steps to safeguard and uphold the human rights of all her citizens\u201d. <\/p>\n<div id=\"tweetbutton43122\" class=\"tw_button\" style=\"float:right;margin-left:10px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/share?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdbsjeyaraj.com%2Fdbsj%2F%3Fp%3D43122&amp;text=Sri%20Lanka%20Informs%20UN%20%20that%20Govt%20Takes%20Note%20of%20the%20Report%20and%20Recommendations%20made%20by%20the%20UN%20High%20Commissioner...%20&amp;related=&amp;lang=en&amp;count=horizontal\" class=\"twitter-share-button\"  style=\"width:55px;height:22px;background:transparent url('https:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-tweet-button\/tweetn.png') no-repeat  0 0;text-align:left;text-indent:-9999px;display:block;\">Tweet<\/a><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Government of Sri Lanka has informed the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights that it takes note of the Report of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (A\/HRC\/30\/61), and the recommendations made by the High Commissioner.
