{"id":41259,"date":"2015-05-09T13:31:56","date_gmt":"2015-05-09T17:31:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=41259"},"modified":"2015-05-09T13:31:56","modified_gmt":"2015-05-09T17:31:56","slug":"president-sirisena-permanently-disbands-the-army-presidential-security-guard-unit-established-by-mahinda-to-provide-security-for-his-family","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=41259","title":{"rendered":"President Sirisena  Permanently Disbands the Army Presidential Security Guard Unit Established by Mahinda to Provide Security for his Family"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><br \/>\nBy Zahrah Imtiaz<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Army Presidential Security Guard (PSG) Unit established under former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was disbanded permanently effective 30 April.<\/p>\n<p>Military spokesperson, Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera told Ceylon Today that this particular security unit was totally disbanded because of administrative imperatives.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The former President&#8217;s security personnel came under scrutiny when an army corporal attached to his security division was arrested last week, with a gun in his possession at the time, for having come into close proximity to President Maithripala Sirisena at an SLFP meeting in Angunakolapelessa on 25 April. <\/p>\n<p>The man had said he was there in the course of security duties for MP Namal Rajapaksa.<\/p>\n<p>Colonel Mahendra Fernando, head of the Security Office of the former President, was also questioned by the Army Special Investigation Unit (ASIU) and CID with regard to the incident at Angunakolapelessa.<\/p>\n<p>The Army PSG is not a unit that provides security services for all former Presidents.
