{"id":39907,"date":"2015-03-25T02:09:44","date_gmt":"2015-03-25T06:09:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=39907"},"modified":"2015-03-25T22:21:32","modified_gmt":"2015-03-26T02:21:32","slug":"champika-ranawaka-denounces-19th-amendment-as-constitutional-coupand-vows-to-defeat-it-in-parliament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=39907","title":{"rendered":"Champika Ranawaka of JHU Denounces 19th Amendment as &#8220;Constitutional Coup&#8221; and Vows to Defeat it in Parliament."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Lahiru Pothmulla<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>T<\/strong>he 19th Amendment presented in Parliament by the Government was a result of a \u2018Constitutional Coup\u2019 to allow a person who is unable to win at an election to retain power, the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) said today.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/JHU020713.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/JHU020713.gif\" alt=\"JHU020713\" width=\"271\" height=\"148\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-16048\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>JHU General Secretary and Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said the objective of the latest reforms was to render the Executive President powerless and to make the Prime Minister powerful.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n\u201cThe people elected President Maithripala Sirisena with a mandate to curb the arbitrary powers of the Presidency and not to make the Prime Minister the Head of the Government nor allow Parliament to override the Executive.
