‘Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake was purportedly removed from her post under the process set out in Standing Order 78A’<\/p><\/div>\n

President Maithripala Sirisena has accepted Shirani Bandaranayake as the legal Chief Justice of Sri Lanka.
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cMr. President accepts Shirani Bandaranayake as the legal Chief Justice,\u201d President Sirisena tweeted from his official Twitter account, a short while ago.<\/p>\n

In his election manifesto, President Sirisena said that CJ 43 Shirani Bandaranayake will be reinstated in her position as the Chief Justice of Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n

This morning, the President and his Cabinet acknowledged Bandaranayake\u2019s right to resume duties as the Chief Justice of Sri Lanka as her impeachment was flawed and there illegal.<\/p>\n

The President also sent \u201cmarching orders\u201d to CJ 44 Mohan Peiris to leave office, making way for Shirani Bandaranayake.<\/p>\n

However, President Sirisena was also among UPFA Parliamentarians who voted for the impeachment of CJ 43 Shirani Bandaranayake.<\/p>\n

\nShirani Bandaranayake Comes to Supreme Court to Assume Duties as Chief Justice<\/strong><\/p>\n

Impeached chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake arrived at the Supreme Court premises a short while ago to assume duties as the Chief Justice of Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n

issuing a statement this morning, Bandaranayake said she was still the “legal” Chief Justice of the country. The President and the Cabinet have acknowledged that her removal was “illegal” and “flawed. <\/p>\n

Bandaranayake, who arrived at the Supreme Court, was formally welcomed by Upul Jayasuriya, President of the Sri Lanka Bar Association.<\/p>\n

BASL sources said CJ 43 did not need to take oaths before President Maithripala Sirisena as she was removed from office through a flawed impeachment process.<\/p>\n

CJ 44 Mohan Peiris has still not handed over her resignation. <\/p>\n

\nRe-instated Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake Likely to Resign after a Ceremonial Sitting<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake who was reinstated today (28) , is expected to resign from her position tomorrow after a ceremonial sitting, making way for a new Chief Justice.<\/p>\n

According to sources from Hulftsdorp, Shirani Bandaranayake will have her ceremonial sitting tomorrow morning, two years after her impeachment, at the Supreme Court in Colombo. <\/p>\n

President of Sri Lanka Bar Association Upul Jayasuriya told media a short while ago that the CJ informed the BASL that she was planning to officially resign from her duties tomorrow after the ceremonial sitting. <\/p>\n

With her resignation, she will be entitled to her pension and other privileges as the former Chief Justice of the country.<\/p>\n

Asian Mirror reliably learns that Justice K. Sripavan, who is the most senior judges of the Supreme Court is most likely to be appointed as the new Chief Justice. it was before Sripavan that President Maithripala Sirisena took oaths as the President of Sri Lanka on January 09, this year.<\/p>\n

Shirani Bandaranayake who was impeached by the former government, was today (28) reinstated as the Chief Justice with the intervention of President Maithripala Sirisena and his Cabinet<\/p>\n

The President, in his Election manifesto highlighted that \u2018justice\u2019 will be delivered to Shirani Bandaranayake and former Army Chief Sarath Fonseka, which he did by reinstating both parties to their former titles. <\/p>\n
