The SLFP yesterday asked the government to curb attacks on the supporters and elected representatives of the UPFA after the conclusion of the presidential election on January 08.<\/p>\n

Addressing a media conference at the SLFP headquarters on Darley road, party General Secretary Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said that number of incidents of assault, preventing people from reporting to work, harassment in work places and at least one killing by UNP politicians had been reported from all parts of the country last week.<\/p>\n

“We will make a list of those incidents shortly and it will be revealed to the public in Parliament,” he said.<\/p>\n

The former Minister pointed out that post-election violence against supporters of defeated party had been widespread during UNP regimes, but it had been brought to an end since 2005, when Mahinda Rajapaksa was elected President..<\/p>\n

Showing video footage to journalists, Kalutara District MP Mahinda Samarasinghe said that UNP Kalutara District MP Palitha Thewarapperuma had assaulted a Tamil member of Palindanuwara Pradeshiya Sabha Murugan Pushpakumara after damaging UPFA office in the Agalawatte town on Sunday.<\/p>\n

MP Thewarapperuma also tried to enter the Palindanuwara Pradeshiya Sabha meeting on Friday and fired into the air, but police blocked him from entering the PS premises, Samarasinghe said.<\/p>\n

He said that immediately after the incident they had informed President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe of the incidents.<\/p>\n

“The President and PM immediately took action to prevent further incidents and promised a disciplinary action against the UNP parliamentarian,” Samarasinghe said, adding that they also met Police Chief N. K. Illangakoon to inform of the incident.<\/p>\n

Samarasinghe asked whether it was the good governance that the people had been promised before the presidential election.<\/p>\n
