It\u2019s not about a rose, but about Western imperialism in President Mahinda Rajapaksa\u2019s name that was cited as the reason for the objection against his nomination for the January 8 presidential poll. <\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_20234\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/archives\/20213\/vk041613\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-20234\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20234\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/VK041613-600x328.jpg\" alt=\"Dr. Vickramabahu Karunaratne\" width=\"600\" height=\"328\" class=\"size-large wp-image-20234\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-20234\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr. Vickramabahu Karunaratne<\/p><\/div>\n<p><em>If President Rajapaksa\u2019s name reflected Western imperialism, the objection against the nomination of common opposition candidate Maithripala Sirisena said he was mentally unfit. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>These were the two objections when nominations were received on Monday at the Elections Department in Rajagiriya.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nAlthough Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya overruled the objections, the two petitioners defended their positions. Nava Samasamja Party leader Wickramabahu Karunaratne who objected to President Rajapaksa\u2019s nominations said, \u201cPresident Rajapaksa had given his name as Percy Mahendra Rajapaksa, which is different from the one he uses. The name \u2018Percy\u2019 is a western imperialist name while Mahendra symbolises Indian power. This is what manipulators do and it shows his politics,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>United Lanka Maha Sabha Party Secretary Nath Amarakoon who objected to Mr. Sirisena\u2019s nominations said the day before the proclamation of the presidential election, the NDF candidate was the Health Minister and even carried the relic casket invoking blessings on President Rajapaksa on his birthday.
