One of the biggest assets that is being brandished about by the Common Candidate is his “Maithree” i.e., Compassion.<\/p>\n

The Common Candidate also claims proudly that he follows Mahatma Gandhi\u2019s principles on “Avihinsa” (non-violence towards all living beings).<\/p>\n

I would like all Animal Lovers and Compassionate People in this “Dharma Dveepa” to note that it is this very same Common Candidate who, in January 2012, gave the orders over and above President\u2019s unique No-Kill Policy on Dogs which was declared in June 2006, to resume killing dogs.<\/p>\n

Mercifully, his murderous plan was halted by the President.<\/p>\n

However, the Common Candidate, may be out of his misplaced compassion to dogs, then gives the green light to build a “horror house” in Nellikulam, in Anuradhapura, past the hallowed Ruwanweli Seya and Jaya Shri Maha Bodhiya, to incarcerate innocent dogs using millions of public funds. <\/p>\n

This appalling place had to be closed due to public pressure in less than a year into its shamelessly inhumane running; animal welfarists had to undo the Common Candidate’s evil by rescuing nearly 400 utterly helpless and neglected, sick and emaciated dogs.<\/p>\n

YOU decide who out of the Common Candidate and the President is more compassionate and consistent in exercising that compassion. Compassion is judged by what we show towards All Living Beings.<\/p>\n

I have decided as a compassionate and grateful Sri Lankan that I will give my precious vote to President Mahinda Rajapakse for giving us back a country to live in without being slaughtered by the LTTE, for his compassion towards all living beings, and for his Statesmanship, as against voting a dog-killing power crazy puppet whose strings are held by a motley group of equally power hungry failed politicians, who do not have any intention of doing any good for the country (they had their chances to do so, didn\u2019t they?) , but are blindly pursuing their private agendas against Mahinda Rajapakse through utter envy.<\/p>\n

Futile allegations like Nepotism pale into insignificance against all else President Rajapaske has done for this country, most importantly getting us back a country to live peacefully without he too making the LTTE issue a beggar\u2019s wound like all in power before him did.<\/p>\n

I am sure the vast majority of Sri Lankans are permanently grateful for that and the development since the end of the war and would not want our country to end up like Syria or Iraq with a regime change in January 2015.<\/p>\n

For the Common Candidate\u2019s edification, in case he wins this election by some fluke chance, let me end my letter quoting the much used saying of Mahatma Gandhi that “The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”<\/p>\n
