DMK on Saturday appealed to the Chief Justices of the Supreme Court and Madras High Court to initiate contempt proceedings against AIADMK workers for allegedly denigrating the special judge who awarded four years jail term to their leader Jayalalithaa in a wealth case and the verdict itself.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Chief Justices of the Supreme and Madras High courts should take contempt action against AIADMK ministers and partymen,\u201d a resolution adopted at the meeting of DMK\u2019s lawyers\u2019 wing here said.<\/p>\n

The resolution, however, did not specifically name any leader of the AIADMK for what it called \u201cdenigrating\u201d the judgement of Bangalore Special Court Judge, John Michael Cunha, who had on September 27 sentenced Ms. Jayalalithaa to four years simple imprisonment in the disproportionate assets case.<\/p>\n

The judge was denigrated \u201cpersonally\u201d and acts \u201cinimical\u201d to the cordial relationship between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu were being done by AIADMK functionaries, it alleged.<\/p>\n

Another resolution exhorted the DMK functionaries to take appropriate legal action in their respective districts against \u201cAIADMK ministers and workers\u201d for the violence and damage that allegedly followed the verdict against Ms. Jayalalithaa.<\/p>\n

The DMK functionaries should launch a propaganda drive in all districts on the wealth case and the Bangalore court verdict against Ms. Jayalalithaa by using social media and micro blogging sites and other communication avenues like the Short Messaging Services (SMS), a third resolution said.<\/p>\n


\nKarunanidhi questions Special Prosecutor Bhavani Singh\u2019s role in Jayalalithaa case<\/strong><\/p>\n

DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Friday objected to the remarks of Bhavani Singh, Special Public Prosecutor in the disproportionate assets case against the former Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, saying that through his conduct, he had confused everyone.<\/p>\n

Mr. Bhavani Singh had said that while the DMK had accused him of favouring the AIADMK, Ms. Jayalalithaa\u2019s lawyer. Ram Jethmalani, had told the court that he belonged to the DMK. \u201cWhat is the credit for the work I have done so far,\u201d he had asked. <\/p>\n

Mr. Karunanidhi said Mr. Bhavani Singh had submitted in writing in the morning that Ms. Jayalalithaa should not be granted bail, but changed his stand in the evening, agreeing to free her on conditional bail. His conduct had forced the Karanataka government to remove him as public prosecutor, and he was allowed to remain in the post after AIADMK men approached the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe judge of the Special Court also imposed a fine on him for not attending the court regularly,\u201d Mr. Karunanidhi said.
