{"id":32644,"date":"2014-08-23T02:13:26","date_gmt":"2014-08-23T06:13:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=32644"},"modified":"2014-08-23T02:14:13","modified_gmt":"2014-08-23T06:14:13","slug":"islamic-terrorismposes-threat-to-sri-lanka-reiterates-defence-secretary-gotabaya-rajapaksa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=32644","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Islamic Terrorism&#8221; Poses Threat to Sri Lanka Reiterates Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By<\/p>\n<p> P K Balachandran<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><strong>COLOMBO:<\/strong> In a paper published in the latest issue of the US Defence Department\u2019s journal \u201cPrism\u201d, Sri Lanka\u2019s Defence Secretary, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, has reiterated his belief that Islamic terrorism poses a threat to the island nation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since the LTTE\u2019s defeat, some of the Muslim groups in Lanka have begun to engage in activities that go \u201cfar beyond self-protection\u201d, he said in the journal brought out by the Center for Complex Operations (CCO).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is information that some of these groups have even tried to link up with global Islamic terrorist organisations. This is a situation that requires careful monitoring,\u201d Gotabaya said.  \u201cSome Islamic groups in Lanka have started to establish ties with LTTE-linked agents to create further problems,\u201d he further said.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>According to Gotabaya, the increasing insularity of Lanka\u2019s ethnic groups is at the root of the problem.   \u201cRather than identifying themselves on the basis of nationality, the communities of Sri Lanka have begun to identify themselves on the basis of ethnicity or their religion.
