{"id":30494,"date":"2014-06-10T18:13:04","date_gmt":"2014-06-10T22:13:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=30494"},"modified":"2014-06-11T00:37:42","modified_gmt":"2014-06-11T04:37:42","slug":"tamil-nadu-chief-minister-j-jayalalithaa-effigy-burnt-in-colombo-by-sri-lankans-protesting-undue-influence-by-india-on-sri-lanka","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=30494","title":{"rendered":"Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa Effigy Burnt in Colombo by Sri Lankans Protesting &#8220;Undue Influence by India on Sri Lanka&#8221;."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Hundreds of Sri Lankan nationalists on Tuesday staged a demonstration near the Indian High Commission in Colombo and burnt the effigy of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa to protest against the \u201cundue influence\u201d from India on Colombo to implement the 13 th amendment.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/20140611-003421-2061093.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/20140611-003421-2061093.jpg\" alt=\"20140611-003421-2061093.jpg\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><i>picture courtesy of: Straits Times-twitter.com\/STForeignDesk<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Activists from the Nationalist Organisations gathered opposite the Indian mission carrying portraits of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Jayalalithaa.<\/p>\n<p>Protesters later burnt the effigy of Jayalalithaa.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are here to protest against the undue influence exerted by Jayalalithaa on the Indian government to act against Sri Lanka\u201d, Dr Wasantha Bandara, a spokesman of the protesters said.<\/p>\n<p>Bengamuve Nalaka, a Buddhist monk said Jayalalithaa was acting at the behest of the Western powers who are anti Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n<p>The nationalist allies of President Rajapaksa have been irked by the new Indian government\u2019s insistence on implementing the thirteenth amendment.<\/p>\n<p>Sri Lanka\u2019s thirteenth amendment was introduced in 1987 as a result of direct Indian intervention to try and resolve the ethnic impasse in the island.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to tell India that all communities could leave in peaceful co\u2014existence here.
