{"id":30062,"date":"2014-05-27T09:37:44","date_gmt":"2014-05-27T13:37:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=30062"},"modified":"2014-05-27T09:37:44","modified_gmt":"2014-05-27T13:37:44","slug":"three-suspected-ltte-operatives-with-unhcr-refugee-cards-arrested-in-malaysia-possessed-tiger-propaganda-material","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=30062","title":{"rendered":"Three Suspected LTTE Operatives with UNHCR Refugee Cards  Arrested in Malaysia Possessed Tiger Propaganda Material."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>by <\/p>\n<p>Chee Yuan Gho<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>PETALING JAYA:<\/strong> Three foreign men suspected to be the members of the Sri Lankan Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) terrorist group were picked up in Selangor last week.<\/p>\n<p>Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar confirmed the arrest in a statement today, elaborating that the trio were nabbed at different locations in Klang and Petaling Jaya in a special operation carried out by the Bukit Aman Special Branch Counter-Terrorism Division (CTD) on May 15.<\/p>\n<p>According to Khalid, the three men were holding United Nation refugee agency (UNHCR)   cards. The suspects had been using UNHCR cards to avoid deceive the authorities.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Police suspected they were attempting to revive LTTE activities, especially at international levels.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Investigations showed that the trio came into the country in 2004. We suspect they were planning to use Malaysia as their base to spread their propaganda as well as collect funds for their activities.<\/p>\n<p>It is learned that police have seized LTTE propaganda materials, media equipment and foreign currencies from 24 nations equivalent to RM20,176.53.<\/p>\n<p>Khalid promised to work closely with the UNHCR office here to ensure no refugee cards were being exploited by terrorists nor allow them to use the country as their base.<\/p>\n<p>The suspects are being held under the Immigration Act to facilitate investigations.<\/p>\n<p>This is the latest arrest following the arrests of 12 individuals believed to be involved in militant activities over the past month.<\/p>\n<p>On April 28, nine suspected militants were detained by federal police&#8217;s Counter-Terrorism Division, Special Branch.<\/p>\n<p>The nine, including a woman, are aged between 22 to 55.
