Well known Tamil writer and Jnanpith awardee D. Jayakanthan has been admitted to a private hospital in Chennai, where his condition was said to be serious, sources said.<\/p>\n
The 80-year old writer has not been keeping well since the last few months, they said.<\/p>\n
Known for his work \u2018Sila Nerangalil Sila Manidhargal\u2019 among others, Mr. Jayakanthan was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1972.<\/p>\n
Called as \u2018JK\u2019 among novelists and literary enthusiasts, Mr. Jayakanthan was awarded Jnanpith Award in 2002.<\/p>\n
In 2009, he received \u2018Padma Bhushan\u2019.<\/p>\n
In honour of his translation works of Russian novelist Pushkin, the Russian government also awarded him the \u2018Order of Friendship\u2019 in 2011.<\/p>\n
