Damdeniye Dhammananda Thera arrested by the police on Tuesday evening for attempted self-immolation and breach of peace.<\/p>\n<p> Senior Superintendent of Police Ajith Rohana told The Island that the Buddhist monk, a member of Sihala Ravaya, which launched a protest in front of the Fort Railway station against cattle slaughter demanding that the government ban it immediately. He had attempted to commit suicide by pouring petrol over his body and the police personnel had prevented him from setting himself on fire and arrested him, the\u2008SSP said.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Three Buddhist monks of Sihala Ravaya launched a fast unto death at the same location yesterday as their  demand had not been granted by the government. A Buddhist monk told the media that President Mahinda Rajapaksa or his Secretary Lalith Weeratunga should intercede to bring an end to cattle slaughter or the monks would continue their fast there.<\/p>\n<p> President of the Sihala Ravaya, Ven.
