\nOn the 26th of January 2014, the pastor of the Calvary Free Church in Rathgama in the Galle district and some congregation members were praying together at the premises of one of the members. <\/p>\n

Whilst the prayer meeting was in progress, at approximately 10.40 a.m., eight police officers together with a Buddhist monk forcibly entered the premises. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Buddhist monk began to shout accusations \u201cyou\u2019ll are committing an offense by gathering together in a unauthorized place of worship; it is illegal, you\u2019ll should be arrested for committing this offense\u201d. Then the police officers requested all the Christians who had gathered to pray, to come to the police station.<\/p>\n

The police officers whilst escorting some of the women to the police station began say that the Christians were Fundamentalists and that all the religious worship activities in the village needed to stop. <\/p>\n

The surrounding villagers were made to believe that a serious crime was committed by the Christians as they were escorted in the police vehicle whilst all the villagers were watching.<\/p>\n

The pastor together with the other Christians were released after a statement and a complaint was made by the pastor and his spouse (police complaint holding number CIB 312\/301, CIB 313\/303). <\/p>\n

Upon the arrival of a lawyer and upon the police being questioned on the legal validity of their actions, the police responded that they were taking steps to protect the Christians and ensure that they faced no further harm.<\/p>\n

The said pastor was called for a police inquiry on the 29th of January 2014. The inquiry commenced at approximately 9 a.m. in the area police station. <\/p>\n

One Buddhist monk who was present at the inquiry, continued to accuse the pastor of committing unethical conversions. <\/p>\n

A case was filed by the police officers for breach of peace in the Galle Magistrate Court. The case was to be heard on 31st January 2014.<\/p>\n
