{"id":17168,"date":"2013-02-25T03:11:01","date_gmt":"2013-02-25T08:11:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=17168"},"modified":"2013-02-25T22:28:14","modified_gmt":"2013-02-26T03:28:14","slug":"tamil-lullaby-in-life-of-piwritten-and-sung-by-bombay-jayashri-fails-to-win-oscar-in-best-original-song-category","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=17168","title":{"rendered":"Tamil Lullaby in &#8220;Life of Pi&#8221; Written and Sung by Bombay Jayashri Fails to Win Oscar in best Original Song Category"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>PRESS TRUST OF INDIA<\/strong>-Bombay Jayashri, the sole Indian nominee at this year\u2019s Oscars, lost the Best Original Song trophy to British singer Adele, who won the statuette for her soulful rendition of James Bond theme Skyfall.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This is the very first James Bond theme to win an Oscar. <\/p>\n<p>The 24-year-old singer went into the elite competition looking like the smart bet to bring home the trophy as the song became an instant classic after its release.<\/p>\n<p>The British songstress, who also performed the song at the ceremony, co-wrote it with Paul Epworth especially for the film and the opening words \u2018This is the end\u2019 fit perfectly with the film\u2019s themes of death and rebirth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is amazing&#8230; thank you for believing in me,\u201d said a teary eyed Adele while accepting her trophy at the glittering award ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>Adele defeated Jayashri\u2019s Pi\u2019s Lullaby from \u2018Life Of Pi\u2019 which she co-wrote with composer Michael Danna and late sitarist Ravi Shankar\u2019s daughter Norah Jones for \u2018Everybody Needs a Friend\u2019 from \u2018Ted\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>She also saw off competition from Before My time from \u2019Chasing Ice\u2019 and Suddenly from \u2018Les Miserables\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2019Skyfall\u2019 was indeed emotional for Adele as it marked her return to recording since the major surgery she underwent as a result of a vocal cord haemorrhage in late 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Adele has been enjoying a pretty remarkable run of good luck in the past few years \u2014 her second album \u201821\u2019 sold over twenty-five million copies worldwide, she earned six Grammy awards in 2012 (more than any other female artist has won in one year), and she picked up a Golden Globe in January for \u2019Skyfall\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Best Original Song has been won by only a handful of Brits down the years.
