Referring to the denial of the visa to military official, Brig. Susantha Ranasinha, he said, “There were some cases of human rights vetting that resulted in the visa being denied.”

He said the two countries can move towards a greater military cooperation when ‘Sri Lanka addresses accountability issues mentioned in the LLRC report.’

Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Jane Zimmerman said the US Government wanted to see progress in accountability issues, adding the US welcomes the government’s commitment to hold Northern elections in September. But she added: “There are quite a number of people who want to know what happened to their loved ones.”COURTESY:CEYLON TODAY

By Ranga Jayasuriya The United States would sponsor a resolution on Sri Lanka at the forthcoming United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHCR) session in March, the visiting US Government delegation told the media, yesterday.
