Uva Chief Minister, Shashindra Rajapaksa, yesterday urged President Mahinda Rajapaksa to give up the Ministry of Defence as the war has been over for more than three years.<\/p>\n

Addressing a meeting at Welimada, the Chief Minister said he requested this of the President at this essential hour of need. He also requested the President to take over the Ministries of Education and Higher Education.

\nHe said he has requested the President to hand over the Defence Ministry, Highway Ministry and Ministry of Ports to somebody else and take on the education related ministries.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow the war has ended and most of the roads in the country have developed. Also there is no space in Sri Lanka to construct more ports. So I requested the president to hand over the Defence, Port and Highway ministries to another person and take on all education related ministries,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He also said that when taking a decision about education, the authorities should think not just once or twice but six times as the consequences of the decision taken at present would come into effect in another 10 or 15 years\u2019 time.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow that most of the roads are being completed why is there a need to waste time on that? On the other hand there is no space left to construct any more harbours, there is therefore no need to hold the Ports Ministry as well. He will have more time to concentrate in solving crises in the education sector,\u201d Rajapaksa added.<\/p>\n

He added that they support any decision taken by the President relating to the education sector.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, those decisions need to be accurate and we will be against any incorrect action. We clearly say that whatever connections we have, will not have any effect on us when it comes to going against a wrong policy or a decision\u201d he said. courtesy: CeylonToday<\/em><\/p>\n
