Former State Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha, who was removed from the said post last week, and several other government parliamentarians attended the slain Prime Minister S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike’s 123rd birth commemoration organised by former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga last Saturday (8).
Kumaratunga had organised one event to commemorate Bandaranaike’s 123rd birthday in front of the Bandaranaike statue at Galle Face Green, while the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) founded by Bandaranaike, had organised another.
Accordingly, Premajayantha; State Minister of National Heritage, Performing Arts, and Rural Arts Promotion Vidura Wickramanayake; Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MPs Chandima Weerakkody and Anura Priyadarshana Yapa; Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Kumara Welgama; and former Ministers Jeevan Kumaratunga and Arjuna Ranatunga were present at the event organised by Kumaratunga at 8.30 a.m. last Saturday.
Kumaratunga and Sunethra Bandaranaike paid floral tributes to S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike’s statue followed by government and Opposition representatives who attended the event.
Speaking to the media after the event, Premajayantha said that he attended the event to commemorate Bandaranaike as he felt that it was the ideal time to commemorate the programme initiated by Bandaranaike and later continued by the late Premier Sirimavo Bandaranaike.
Meanwhile, another group led by SLFP Chairman and former President Maithripala Sirisena had organised another event to commemorate Bandaranaike at 10.30 a.m. on the same day.
Speaking to the media after the event, Sirisena said that the party was currently being reorganised with great vigour and speed, in line with the country’s current political situation. When queried by journalists as to whether the SLFP would initiate a new journey, he said that they would be on the track towards a new journey for the people and the country.
“ Let alone running a country, I do not think Gotabaya Rajapaksa can even serve as a Pradeshiya Sabha member,” -Kumara Welgama Welgama
Leader of the Nawa Lanka Freedom Party (NLFP) MP Kumara Welgama expressed strong criticisms against President Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday.
“The Rajapaksas have failed, they won’t be able to come to power again. There is no point in speaking about Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Let alone running a country, I do not think he can even serve as a Pradeshiya Sabha member,” Welgama stated.
He made these statements when speaking to the media after attending an event to mark the 123rd birth anniversary of the late SLFP founder S W R D Bandaranaike.
