Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika Sri Ragala, on the advice of Attorney General Sanjay Rajaratnam, on Friday (10), released Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) General Secretary and head of the Presidential Task Force on One Country, One Law, Ven. Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thera, from the case where he had been charged with denigrating the Islamic faith and the Holy Quran.
When the case was taken up, the Organised Crimes Detection Bureau (OCDB) told the Magistrate that the AG had advised them to release Gnanasara Thera from the case.
The OCDB had filed the case against the BBS General following a complaint by then UNP MP Mujibur Rahman that Gnanasara Thera had expressed views that had disparaged the Islamic faith and Holy Quran, during two rallies held in Polonnaruwa on 6 May four years ago.
