Tamil Congress MP Selvrajah Kajenthiran and Two Others Arrested in Jaffna Under Quarantine Laws for Memorialising Former LTTE Stalwart Thileepan; Video footage of tarrest shows Police manhandling and shoving the MP into a Police vehicle.

Ahila Ilankai Thamil Congress (AITC) MP Selvarajah Kajendren was arrested by the Jaffna Police today (23) while he was attending a memorial held for Rasaiah Parthipan, commonly known as ‘Thileepan’.

Thileepan was a Tamil Eelam revolutionary and member of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

Video footage circulating of the arrest showed Police manhandling and shoving the MP into a Police vehicle.

Speaking to The Morning, Police Spokesperson SSP Nihal Thalduwa stated that Kajendren was arrested along with two others for breaching quarantine laws while attending the memorial.

According to Thalduwa, Kajendren may face a fine of up to Rs. 10,000 and potential jail time for this offence, if proven guilty by a court of law.

Meanwhile, Illankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi (ITAK) MP M.A Sumanthiran condemned Kajendren’s arrest.

“I condemn the arrest of Selvarajah Kajenthiran, MP in Jaffna today while exercising his right to memorialisation ,” the MP stated in a tweet.
