Referring to the recent incident transpired in the Anuradhapura Prison involving State Minister Lohan Ratwatte, Industries Minister Wimal Weerawansa said Lohan set an example for political culture by resigning from the post following the incident.
He told reporters that it was obvious for people to make mistakes, but what is important is to admit their mistakes and make sure that they would not do the same in future.
“What has happened here is that he has resigned from his portfolio when he found that he has done something wrong. He has acknowledged his wrongdoing and took the responsibility for what he has done,” Minister Weerawansa said.
“These kind of incidents are very rare in our political history,” he added.
When asked whether it is ethical for Ratwatte to retain as State Minister of Gem and Jewellery related industries, he said if Ratwatte had involved in a jewellery robbery, he should step down from that portfolio as well.
