Former Cabinet Minister Rishad Bathiudeen who was Detained Under the PTA for Allegedly Aiding and Abetting Easter Sunday Terror Bombings is Remanded Until August 17th by Fort Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage

Former Minister Rishard Bathiudeen who was arrested and detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act was remanded till August 17 by Fort Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage yesterday.

The investigators had conducted a comprehensive probe into funding of the Easter Sunday suicide bombers and a range of financial transactions that had taken place in the run up to the 2019 attacks.

The MP was initially questioned under a 72 hour detention order obtained by the Criminal Investigations Department under the provisions of Article 6(1) of the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

The Detention Order that was obtained for 72 hours expired on April 27.

However a further Detention Order was obtained pursuant to Article 9(1) of PTA, as Bathiudeen needed to be interrogated further. Given this, a 90 day Detention Order was obtained to conduct further investigations. MP Bathiudeen was taken into the custody at his residence in Bauddhaloka Mawatha in Colombo.
