The STF personnel providing security for TNA MP M.A. Sumanthiran had been withdrawn last Sunday (7) evening.
Sumanthiran said, no reasons have been given to him prior to the move. He claimed, the security officers informed him they have been recalled from duty.
The MP participated in the four-day ‘Pottuvil to Polikandy’ protest parade with several other Tamil politicians and civil society members.
“I was offered STF protection in 2014, after there were three assassination attempts on me that was confirmed with evidence. There were arrests of some individuals with ammunitions. It was the then Government that informed me about all these and provided me with the STF.” He also noted his security detail was recalled during the 52-day Constitutional crisis in 2018 and was restored after the crisis was resolved.
Furthermore, the MP said he did not want to disclose the number of STF officers who were with him due to security reasons.
