Former Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne was granted bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
This was when an anticipatory bail application filed by Dr. Senaratne was taken up for consideration.
The court ordered that Dr. Senaratne be granted bail on two personal bail bonds of Rs 500,000 each.
Banning foreign travel for Senaratne, the court ordered the surrender of his passport.
Senaratne has also been ordered to make a statement to the CID after being discharged from hospital.
He was remanded until yesterday over the controversial “white van” media briefing he had held on Nov 10 in the run up to the last presidential election on November 16.
He has been receiving treatment at the Coronary Intensive Care Unit of Lanka Hospital under remand custody.
Although he was set to be transferred to the Prisons Hospital, on Sunday (29), it was suspended as per his doctors’ advice.
Previously, Senaratne filed three anticipatory bail applications.
