Former President and one-time SLFP leader Chandrika Kumaratunga has expressed her readiness to revitalise the party, founded by her father.
She has announced that she would revive the party, which according to her, is being manipulated by other parties. She has conveyed her decision to party seniors, according to party sources.
The former president visited the SLFP headquarters, on Darley Road on Thursday, and met several senior party men and criticised the leaders who succeeded her for the present plight of the party.
Kumaratunga announced that she would commence a project to revitalise the party, starting from next Monday, and demanded that a separate office be allocated for her and her staff at the SLFP Headquarters with immediate effect.
Her demand had been conveyed to the party senior officials, sources said.Kumaratunga found fault with the party’s incumbent General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekera for his failure to initiate disciplinary action against former President Mahinda Rajapaksa for violating the party discipline, sources said.
Associated with former president Kumaratunga was convenor of the Organisation for the Protection of the SLFP Bandara Athukorala.
