Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera has called on the Vatican and Pope Francis to take note of Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith visiting MP Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera in Kandy yesterday, while he was engaged in a fast demanding the resignation of Minister Rishad Bathiudeen and Provincial Governors M.L.A.M. Hisbullah and Azath Salley.
Cardinal Ranjith by going all the way to Kandy and shaking Rathana Thera’s hands had aggravated hatred and communalism, Samaraweera said yesterday.
Samaraweera said that he had brought to the notice of the Vatican and Pope Francis the damage that Cardinal Ranjith had caused to communal amity and national reconciliation by choosing to visit Rathana Thera at this juncture when the country was trying to recover from the April 21st Easter Sunday suicide bomb blasts by the National Thowheed Jamath, which left 258 people dead and around 500 injured.
