The National Christian Evangelical Alliance of Sri Lanka (NCEASL) is deeply concerned by the constitutional crisis prevailing in the country following the events that transpired on the 26th of October 2018 and the subsequent proroguing of parliament by His Excellency the President.

The NCEASL reiterates that the Constitution is the Supreme Law of the land, and that any steps taken regarding the appointment and/or removal of the Prime Minister of the country, should abide by the Constitution and be governed by due process and democratic principles.

The NCEASL is deeply saddened by the sporadic instances of violence that have been reported and calls upon law enforcement officials to maintain peace, act with responsibility and uphold the rule of law.

The NCEASL urges His Excellency the President and the Honourable Speaker to reconvene parliament immediately whilst calling upon all political leaders to uphold the constitution, respect the rule of law and safeguard democratic processes.

The NCEASL appeals to all citizens to act calmly to maintain peace and harmony devoid of all political affiliations. We also solicit prayer for the nation and all leaders in authority as commanded in scriptures for a peaceful resolution of the current crisis
