It seemed that one needed to engage in corrupt activities to obtain a powerful ministerial position, Deputy Minister of Social Empowerment, Ranjan Ramanayake said yesterday commenting on the latest reshuffle of state and deputy ministers, in which some of his subjects were removed.

Previously he held the portfolio of Deputy Minister of Social Empowerment, Welfare and Kandyan Heritage. “I got the highest number of votes from the Gampaha District from the UNP and I did not get a Cabinet portfolio. The UNPer who got the highest votes from Matara, Buddhika Pathirana, has received nothing, that way I am lucky to have got something,” he said.him nor Pathirana had engaged in any corrupt activities and maybe that’s what had prevented them from receiving the positions they deserve in the government. “The more corrupt you are the more you get. Maybe engaging in corrupt activities is a good qualification and I don’t have it.”
