Fence mending talks between sections of the SLFP loyal to President Sirisena and former President Rajapaksa in time for the local elections are continuing according to informed SLFP sources.

Ministers John Seneviratne, Nimal Siripala de Silva and Anura Priyadarshana Yapa are representing the Sirisena faction while former Ministers Pavithra Wanniarachi, CB Ratnayake and Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene are negotiating for the Rajapaksa faction.

< Political observers say that any deal would require Sirisena restoring the positions of electoral organizers from which Rajapaksa loyalists have been removed. The Rajapaksa camp wants the former president made prime minister if the present government is ousted or alternatively leader of the opposition as the leader of the numerically largest group in the opposition.
