Leader of the Joint Opposition (JO) Dinesh Gunawardena, raising a Point of Order, requested Speaker Karu Jayasuriya to investigate and find out whether State Minister Sujeewa Senasinghe’s recent remarks on President amounted to a violation of Standing Orders.

Gunawardena said Senasinghe had, on Tues-day at a press conference, criticized the conduct of President Maithripala Sirisena.

The State Minister declared that he was disappointed with President Sirisena as regards the manner in which the bond scams had been handled.

Speaker Jayasuriya said he would see if the conduct of the President had been criticised through the State Minister’s alleged statement.

Gunawardena said that even though the conduct of the President could not be criticised as per the provisions of Standing Orders 78 Senasinghe had done so.

“The Speaker should look into this matter and give a decision.”

MP Bandula Gunawardena and MP Ranjith Zoysa had also expressed their views on the matter.
