The Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI), probing the controversial Central Bank Treasury Bonds issue, has summoned Attorney General Jayantha Jayasuriya to question Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe when the Commission meets tomorrow.
Attorney General Jayasuriya, when contacted by Ceylon Today, said that a communiqué had been sent, asking him to lead the Prime Minister’s evidence.
“The reason they have summoned me is due to the respect of protocol for the Prime Minister, who is the second citizen of the country. I will be leading the evidence on behalf of the Commission,” he said.
All previous questioning of witnesses had been done by Senior Additional Solicitor-General Dappula de Livera.
Amongst those who have been questioned are, former Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake, Minister of Strategic Development and International Trade Malik Samarawickrema and UNP General Secretary and Minister of State Enterprise Development Kabir Hashim.
Ravi Karunanayake resigned his portfolio after being questioned at the PCoI. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe volunteered to provide evidence when Ministers Samarawickrema and Hashim were questioned.
