A group of MPs who boycotted yesterday’s debate on interim report of the Steering Committee of the Constitutional Assembly were, however, present at the MP’s Restaurant to have their lunch.

MPs are entitled to meals on parliament sitting days and yeterday, too, they were provided with subsidised meals.

National Freedom Front MPs including its leader Wimal Weerawansa boycotted the debate on the interim report, saying that the new Constitution was detrimental to the national interest. The NFF MPs were leading a protest near the Parliament roundabout.

The Constitutional Assembly meets today and tomorrow to debate the interim report of the steering committee.
