Bollywood’s romcom ‘Judwaa 2’ starring Varun Dhawan with Sri Lankan beauty queen Jacqueline Fernandez and Tapsee Pannuas the female leads, has got a thumbs up from the audience not just in India but across the globe as well.
In just a little over three weeks since its release on September 29, it has grossed over INR 2 billion worldwide, and has been declared a super hit.
Judwa 2 is Jacqueline’s ninth film since she entered Bollywood in 2009 with Aladin, a box office disaster. It is her third film to gatecrash into the exclusive Billionaire Club—of films that have earned over a billion rupees at the box office. While Kick (2014), in which she romances with superstar Salman Khan, raked in INR 2.33 billion, her Houseful 2 (2012) made INR 1.18 billion.
Judwa 2 is a remake of Salman Khan-starrer Judwaa, which had released 20 years ago and became a popular film. The remake is also directed by David Dhawan and stars his son Varun Dhawan.
During the release of Judwaa 2, Salman himself had said that the remake will do much better than the original film and it seems his words are turning true.
Released on September 29, Judwaa 2 has been entertaining the audience and getting immense love from them even in the third week. Despite some new releases at the box office, Judwaa 2 remains strong.
The movie collected INR 28.2 million on the third Sunday since its release, taking the total box office collection to INR 1,330 million in India alone.
In the over seas markets, Judwaa 2 has collected $6.02million (INR 395 million) in the third weekend, taking the total worldwide collection to INR 2,100 million.
The performance of the fun-loving film is expected to cross the collections of Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Raees’ to become the second highest Bollywood grosser of the year after Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar’s ‘Toilet: EkPrem Katha’.
Varun has played a double role—Raja and Prem—for the first time in the film Judwaa 2, which is a reboot of Salman Khan’s 1997 flick Judwaa by the same Director. The superstar also returns in a double role for a cameo in the film.
While David Dhawan had stated that he loved some scenes from the original Judwaa so much that he wanted to make a film on them, the two superhit numbers ‘Chaltihaikya 9 se 12’ and ‘Oonchihai building 2.0’ have been reprised for the ‘sequel’.
Judwaa 2 is the story of two separated twins Raja and Prem who are a class apart from each other but are brought together for a cause by fate. The film was majorly shot in London but the team headed to Mauritius to shoot the climax scene just like the original.
