Police recovered a stock of explosives including landmines buried at a location near Sarasalai in Chavakachcheri in Jaffna on Saturday (11).
The police found 34 hand grenades, 10 RPG bombs, mortars and several other explosive items. The area is not currently inhabited by people, police said adding that they believed the explosives had been buried by the LTTE during the war.
Chavakchcheri police and Army are conducting further investigations.
Meanwhile, de-mining groups recovered one thousand rounds of T-56 ammunition, one anti personnel mine and one hand grenade from Muhamalai and Periyamadhu on Saturday (11), army said.
Troops in the East recovered one Trinitrotoluene (TNT) Explosive can weighing about 20 Kg from Kattaparichchan on the same day (11).
On Friday, troops in the East recovered seven anti personnel mines from Komanthurai area.
Last Thursday, troops in the general area of Periyamadu recovered 21 anti personnel mines.
