Hello Friends

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

The Many Faces of Christmas – Shaped Wooden Puzzle from Sri Lanka~ Photographed by Mary Harrsch at an exhibit of over 900 nativity scenes hosted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Eugene, Oregon, USA

For Sri Lanka the war ended officially in May 2009.

However it is not over yet for many of the victims or families of victims. It is also not over for some people in whose hearts there still exist warring passions.

I hope and pray that the war will be over in a real sense for all of us soon and that the war affected people will be on the road to effective recovery.

I wish to share with you all the song” Happy Xmas (war is over) written by John Lennon and Yoko Ono in 1971.

I give you the words and a link to a marvelous rendition of the song by a Toronto based singer Roveena who is the daughter in law of a friend and old student of Jaffna College. I love her unique voice and magical singing. I am sure you will appreciate Roveena’s soulful rendition of this meaningful song at this time.

So here it is friends and once again “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year” – DBSJ

Happy Xmas (War is Over)
John Lennon, Yoko Ono

So this is Xmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Xmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

A very Merry Xmas
And a happy New Year
Let’s hope it’s a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Xmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Xmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let’s stop all the fight

A very Merry Xmas
And a happy New Year
Let’s hope it’s a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Xmas
And what have we done
Another year over
A new one just begun
And so happy Xmas
We hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

A very Merry Xmas
And a happy New Year
Let’s hope it’s a good one
Without any fear
War is over, if you want it
War is over now

    Merry Christmas and happy New Year to you and your family. May transcurrents, tamilweek and other websites run by you also continue to inform, provide the medium for discussion and enlighten in the new year as they have in an exemplary manner in the past year. These websites serve all Sri Lankans and those of Sri Lankan origin now. This is an achievement that has to be further built upon in the New Year.

    Dr.Rajasingham Narendran

  9. Merry Christmas and a blessed new year to DBSJ and Family,
    Wishes to all who read DBSJ blog too.
    My best wsihes for Roveena who sang so magnificiently I hope I can hear her sing Amazing Grace.

    This message is for all who lost loved ones in the terrible war that we had in Sri Lanka. May your memories of your loved ones be gentle as a soft wind across the face. And may those memories bring your loved one closer to your heart.

    If you hate the Sinhalese dont be too hard. For here is one that loves you no matter what you believe in.

    With best wishes

    Dilshan Ferdinando
    Sri Lanka

    Thank you Dilshan. Yes she is a wonderful singer> I would love to hear Roveena sing some hymn classics and spirituals.

    No Dilshan, the bulk of our people dont hate each other. The few comments emitting hatred are but a miniscule fraction of the total number of readers. As in many instances a vociferous minority continues to hog the megaphone and convey a distorted message

    Wish you and your loved ones a very merry Christmas and happy new year my friend

    A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

    You have done a great service to the Sri Lankan community by providing an active forum for discussion, civilised mainly, heated at times. This is a far better strategy than resorting to guns and violence.

    Wishing you a very merry x’mas and a happy new year. Media plays a strategic role in bringing harmony and prosperity to the country. Please continue with your writeups that would directly or indirectly contribute to peace and harmony in 2012.

    As a Pro Tamil I will do my best to accept the Rajapaksa leadership and support any pragmatic solution tabled by the TNA. I also hope the opposition UNP can regroup and act as competent opposition to ensure the prevalence of democracy.

    I also hope the likes of Leela and Kalu Albert in this forum are pragmatic and willing to heed constructive criticism of the ruling party rather than glorifying nepotism.

    Thank you.Compliments of the season………..DBSJ

    I wish you and your loved one the Best Compliments of the Season and A Happy & Prosperous New Year with 2012 bring you good tidings.

    I enjoy reading your writing and I firmly believe that your are ready to write an epic on the 26 year war its beginning and its aftermath which is still a work in progress that does not please me at all. However, I am just one may be among a few who believe in equity and justice and the very fact that I am now a Canadian Citizen tells me that I have chosen my home to be Canada. However, I still impart with my views until someone tells me to shut up from Sri Lanka.

    Once again, keep well and keep writing…

    Sincerely yours,

    Thank you very much.Compliments of the season………….DBSJ

  50. Dear DBS, wish you all the season’s greetings.
    I used to read all of your articles and soemtimes amazed at the informations contained within those articles.
    Everyone knows the corruption and lawlessness back in Srilanka. I wish you write articles on the responsibilities of the journalists, professional associations on these matters. Many of them are either in deep slumber or singing to the tunes of the power in order to save their skin.

    Thank you.Compliments of the season………..DBSJ

  51. Dear DBSJ ,

    Power to your fingers in 2012!

    Thank you.Compliments of the season………..DBSJ

  53. The National conundrum has reached a climax. The political manoeuvring of the two contestants has all the intricacies of a game of Chess; But, the pawns sacrificed are humans of flesh and blood!

    Our country is a land of unlimited potentials. We probably have the best human capital on planet earth, – intelligent, resourceful, and hardworking.

    In fact, if not for the few adaptations of Language and Religion, that we had embraced along our path, we are one and the same people.

    The island has the best features for human habitation, – plentiful natural resources, fabulous fauna and flora, pleasing landscapes, conducive climate, and comforting weather.

    Let us allow at least our children to enjoy these God given luxuries. Let us usher in a Sri Lanka spring 2012.

  54. Dear DBSJ

    A belated Christmas wish and a wish for very happy and a healthy new year for you and the family.

  56. Dear DBSJ

    I wish you a very happy 2012 and i hope you continue make us all happy with your articles.I remember you had some health problems last year.I hope you are better now and they are permanently sorted and i hope you are doing a daily walk.

    God bless you

    Thank you Harshe. Wish you a very happy 2012 and I look forward to your continuous participation on this blog.

  58. Happy New Year. As a Sinhalese reading your articles faithfully, My prayer is that you would keep on playing the role of a true moderator between Sinhalese and Tamil and eventually help bring these two races together. In these days of free information flow, people can see through agenda within days and those who carry them will never survive as peacemakers. Reading your articles I see that you are a true Sri Lankan who wish that all Sri Lankans live together happily together. Let that be our joint wish for this year. It is still a long shot, but every journey starts with a single step. Thank you for your courage and your unbiased stand.

    Thank you.Happy new year………..DBSJ

  59. Ayubowan !

    May your happiness increase like the price of Vegetables;

    May your worries disappear like the Greese yakas;

    May your enemies be punished like Sarath Fonseka;

    May you be protected like Duminda Silva;

    May you be highly qualified in an instant like Namal Rajapaksa;

    May your wealth and property increase like the Rajapaksa Brothers;

    May you live a never ending like the current presidency;

    May you be always victorious like the Rajapaksa Family;

    Have a Happy New year in Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka!!!
