Jayalalithaa: From Alluring Actress to Powerful Politician

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on LinkedInShare on Google+Print this page

Hello Friends

Actress turned politician Jayalalithaa Jayaram has triumphed in the latest elections to the Tamil Nadu Legislative assembly. Her All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagham (AIADMK) led coalition has swept the polls getting 203 of 234 constituencies. She is to be sworn in for the third time as chief minister of Tamil Nadu

I am reproducing here without any changes or updates an article I wrote about her in “The Nation” of February 24th 2008 on the occasion of her sixtieth birthday.

Here it is friends –

By D.B.S.Jeyaraj

February 24, 2008

India in general and its Tamil Nadu state in particular have spawned many colourful political personalities. Standing out among these figures is Ms. Jayalalithaa Jayaram the actress-politico of Tamil Nadu.

The Former chief minister and Anna – Dravida Munnetra Kazhagham (ADMK) leader turns 60 today (Feb 24th).

Earlier her name was spelled with one A (Jayalalitha) at the end. Later a second A was added (Jayalalithaa) due to reasons of numerology.

Jayalalithaa has become well – known in recent times for her rigid stance against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam(LTTE). Supporters of the LTTE love to hate her.

Looking at her rotund appearance today few would imagine of a time when she was slim and lissom. That she was and a ravishing beauty too.

As an actress Jayalalithaa was the uncrowned queen of Tamil cinema during the mid – sixties to the mid – seventies of the last century. She was the dream – girl of many a teen – ager and the favourite pin – up star of many fans.

Among those infatuated by her was the famous actor – politician M.G.Ramachandran (MGR).with whom she paired in more than 25 films. Though unmarried Jayalalithaa was regarded as the love of MGR’s life.

However she has been linked romantically to other people including actors like Shoban Babu, Ravichandran, Jaishanker and Mutturaman.

Jayalalithaa was born on Feb 24th 1948 in Mysore in Karnataka state. Because of this many think she is a Kannadiga and her political rivals often call her that.

The reality is that she is from a Tamil Aiyengar brahmin family hailing from Sreerangam in Trichy. Her grandfather was a physician in the service of the Mysore Maharajah. Hence the family relocated to that state.

Despite her detractors ridiculing her as a “kannadiga” Jayalalithaa has always been proud to assert her Tamil identity.

In 1970 long before she entered politics Jayalalithaa told a Kannada journal that she was a Tamil and not a Kannadiga. This caused a furore in Karnataka.

When Jayalalithaa was shooting for a Tamil film in Bangalore (now Bengalooru) a Kannadiga mob surrounded her and threatened to kill her if she did not retract.

But the courageous Jayalalithaa refused to be intimidated and stood her ground re-iterating that she was Thamizhian”and not a Kannadiga

Jayalalithaa’s father Jayaram was a an irresponsible wastrel who squandered the family fortune. This led to her mother Vedavalli becoming a film actor to support the family.

She took on the name Sandhya. Soon she relocated to Chennai or Madras as it was known then

Jayalalithaa’s given name was Komalavalli. but her pet name is Ammu. She studied at the elite Bishop Cotton High school in Bangalore and later at the Church Park convent in Madras.

In 1964 She passed out second in the state matriculation exam and was given a merit scholarship. She did not pursue higher studies as her destiny was films.

She learnt Bharatha Natyam and carnatic music and had her dance arangetram in 1960. The veteran actor Sivaji Ganesan who presided called her a “thangachilai” or golden statue on account of her fair, glowing skin.

Veteran film director BR Bhanthulu saw her at a film function and got her to act in a Kannada film. The maestro Sreedhar gave her a break in Tamil films. She played the role of a schizophrenic widow in “Vennira Aadai” (White dress) and got rave reviews.

[Ayirathil Oruvan, a re-release poster in Chennai-June 2007]

Her passport to success was her second Tamil film “Aayirathil Oruvan” (one man in a thousand) where she played leading lady to MGR. Despite the 32 year difference in age the duo was a hot pair. They acted together in 28 films.

Among her successes were “Adimai Penn”, Naan, Maatukkaara Velan”Aathiparasakthi” “pattikaadaa Pattanamaa”, Kavalkaran” Engiruntho vanthaal” etc. Her last filom was “Nathiyai Thedi Vantha kadal” in 1978.

Jayalalithaa has acted in more than a hundred films in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada , Hindi and even one English movie “The Epistle”. More than 70 of these ran for more than a hundred days in theatres.

[Amma edraal Anbu…written by Vaali]

She has also sung songs in her own voice in some if not all films. She has a creamy, croony voice. Her first film song was “amma Endraal Anbu” written by Vaali and composed by KV Mahadevan.

An accomplished dancer she lit up the screen and stage by her performances. Her dance drama “Kaviri Thantha Kalaichelvi” was a smashing success.

Though she played glamorous roles she was a good actress and made an impression if given challenging roles with scope to display histrionic ability.

“Thirumangalyam” was Jayalalithaa’s 100th film . There was a felicitation cremony where the chief minister of the time Muttuvel Karunanidhi was the guest of honour. He praised her as one who had “devised literature in acting” (nadippukku Ilakkiam vahuthavar)

She exuded chic and elan in her film career and was a favourite among teens of that era. Many of her costumes were designed by her.She was one of the first heroines to don bathing costumes. Jayalalithaa was a bombshell in bikini.

[L to R: Sivaji Ganesan, M. Karunanidhi, MG Ramachandran & Jayalalithaa]

Jayalalitha was versatile. She has been a columnist, short story writer, novelist and film producer.

Her house named “Veda Nilaayam” after her mother is in Poes Garden. There is an indoor skating rink built there.

She also has a grape arbour in Andhra Pradesh which she uses to get away from the madding crowd.

It was MGR who brought her into politics. After his death in 1987 the ADMK founded by MGR split with his wife Janaki and paramour Jayalalithaa leading the two factions.

Jayalalithaa triumphed and the party united under her leadership to sweep the polls in 1991. She was elected chief minister. She remains the imperious yet undisputed leader of the ADMK today.

Jayalalithaa became the ADMK’s propaganda and later administrative secretary. She was Rajya Sabha MP in 1984. In 1989 she entered Tamil Nadu legislature as an elected MLA. Jayalalithaa was chief minister from 1991 – 1996.

She was re-elected as CM in 2001 but had to relinquish office for a few years due to a legal wrangle. Jayalalithaa handed over reins to a caretaker CM but controlled events. She then won a by – election and became CM till 2006.

[Jayalalithaa & MGR in Kannan en Kadhalan-‘Kannan my love’]

Few in her party dare to call her by name and so she is either “Amma” Or “Madam” or “Thalaivi” . Since MGR was called Puratchi Thalaiver or revolutionary leader, Jayalalithaa is addressed by its feminine equivalent “Puratchi Thalaivi”. Like MGR she too is called “Ithaya Deivam” (Goddess of the heart).

Many in her party treat her as a living Deity and at least one of her former ministers pats his cheeks reverentially when referring to her.

Some ministers have gone on record saying their ambition in life is to be her servant or a watchdog in her kennel

There was a time when in a movie called “Thanipiravi” MGR played Lord Muruga and Jayalalithaa his consort Valli in a dream sequence. A picture of both together as Murugan and Valli was framed and worshipped by many.

Likewise Jayalalithaa has played divine roles in many other films. Pictures of Jayalalithaa in such roles are hung in many dwellings. Some people light camphor and lay flowers before them.

Sycophancy went to the extent of depicting her as the Madonna in posters. Enraged Catholics protested and the posters were removed.

Falling at her feet or touching them as a mark of respect is almost a ritual for many of her followers. Touching or falling at the feet of elders to seek their blessings is customary in India.

But in the case of Jayalalithaa, ADMK sycophants have taken this practice to ridiculous levels. Even party veterans older than Jayalalithaa prostrate themselves publicly.

One amusing scene in the past was when Jayalalithaa visited a remote area by helicopter.Verty (dhoty) clad party men standing in a line fell down like ninepins as she alighted from the aircraft. When they got up the white verties were all red due to the reddish soil. It was a sight!

Once she was questioned by a north Indian journalist about this “falling at feet” practice and asked why she did not put a stop to it. She replied that her supporters were doing so voluntarily due to their affectionate regard for her and that she was unable to prevent it .

This was not correct because it is well – known that she likes it and encourages it.That’s why the sycophants do so. Jayalalithaa also utilises this act to humiliate people.

In one instance a man who had left her party and criticised her returned to its folds again. The media was called in to witness the return of the prodigal. This man KKSR Ramachandran was a big – made man with a very big moustache.

He was required to prostrate himself four times before a smilingly – seated Jayalalithaa under the pretext that the photographers had not got a good shot. The picture was released to all papers.

According to some observers even her mentor and paramour MGR had some kind of a foot fetish for Jayalalithaa.

In many of the films they acted together in , there were scenes of MGR touching Jayalalithaa’s feet like removing a thorn from her sole or massaging a sprained ankle.

Apparently the man who founded the ADMK had a fixation for her feet. Now members of MGR’s party are at Jayalalithaa’s feet metaphorically and literally.

[After presenting a bouquet to greet his leader, Jayalalithaa, on her victory, the outgoing Chief Minister, O. Paneerselvam, seeks her blessings at her Poes Garden residence, Feb 2002]

Like Imelda Marcos , Jayalalithaa herself had a fascination for footwear. There were media teports and pix of her 800 plus shoes, sandals and slippers.

A funny phenomenon are the sycophantic references to her feet by party men when commencing their speeches. In a disgusting spectacle they begin by paying homage to her “Potpaadangal” (golden feet) or “Thamaraithiruvadigal” (Lotus feet).

One point on which she is often criticised about is her arrogance. She is virtually a dominatrix with party people and treating them like her minions and serfs.

There was a time when Jayalalithaa would be the only person sitting on a stage while others would remain standing or seated on the floor. Later she dispensed with this practice but allows only selected people to sit next to her.

When a senior minister Munu Aathi dared to sit next at a function she flared up and publicly ordered him to move back.

On another occasion a Congress cabinet minister from Tamil Nadu tried to sit next to her on a flight to New Delhi. She shouted at him to get lost and referred derisively to his caste.

The man was a Dalit. There was a big outcry and a public apology was demanded. She did not budge.

At inner meetings of the party she remains seated while the rest sit on the floor or remain standing. There have been press conferences where her ministers stand behind her with folded hands while she sits on a sofa.

During election campaigns Jayalalithaa goes around on whirlwind tours in her luxurious trailer – van. Short roadside meetings are held where candidates have to stand on a stool while she talks. Even central cabinet ministers like Mani Shankar Aiyer had to undergo this.

There is no inner party democracy in the ADMK. Jayalalithaa appoints, removes, transfers, promotes, demotes, expels and recruits at her own discretion. Ministers were appointed, fired or shuffled according to her whims. Her wish was the party’s command. None dared to disobey let alone defy.

She is an autocrat who does not tolerate criticism. She looks down upon the media and brooks no dissent. Once she even took on the powerful “Hindu” ordering the arrest of several journalists including the executive editor Malini Parthasarathy. The influential newspaper group had to tug at strings in New Delhi to make her back down

I once witnessed first – hand the utter contempt she had for the media. It was in early 1985 and I was in Tamil Nadu on an assignment. Jayalalithaa was then a Rajya Sabha (upper house) member and propaganda secretary of the ADMK.

An Indian journalist pal took me along for a press conference held by her. Thank God! we were all given chairs to sit. She started off with a bang by asking the “Herald Review” correspondent to stand up. This was a news magazine of the “Deccan Herald” newspaper.

Once the journalist identified himself Jayalalithaa pitched into him.Apparently in an article the scribe had referred to Jayalalithaa as being “hysterical”. She took offence to that launched a tirade about the meaning of hysterical.

If anyone had doubts about hysterical, Jayalalithaa’s performance that day demonstrated what hysteria was all about.

She then ordered him to leave but to the credit of the fourth estate, they protested at the treatment meted out to their colleague. With Jayalalithaa remaining adamant the journos announced that they were walking out en masse. She then relented and conducted the conference with the correspondent in attendance.

This however was at a time when MGR was alive and Jayalalithaa had not become party leader or chief minister. I do not know how the journalists would have reacted to a similiar incident under present circumstances.

While her haughty demeanor and arrogant attitude deserves to be condemned there is perhaps a rationale for such behaviour. The ascendancy of Jayalalithaa in a Tamil Nady milieu can be viewed as an ironic contradiction.

Despite the breeze of cosmopolitanism blowing in through Globalization , the state of Tamil Nadu is basically conservative. It is a patriarchal , male – dominated society with strict notions of a woman’s role and place. Jayalalithaa is a woman.

Tamil Nadu society at large has contempt for women actors in the cine field who do not behave as “good” women should.Woman film stars in spite of their glamour are not respected and regarded with disdain in private. Jayalalithaa was an actress.

The dominant political ideology in the state is that of Dravidianism. This is based on archaic concepts of the Aryan – Dravidian divide where the Brahmin community is seen as Aryans and other Tamils as Dravidians.Anti – brahminism is a core element of Dravidian discourse. Jayalalithaa is a brahmin.

Thus one can see that the Jayalalithaa phenomenon goes against the grain of three dominant concepts in Tamil Nadu. She is a woman, a film star and a brahmin. The success of this embodiment in the socio – political realm of Tamil Nadu is a contradiction. Jayalalithaa in a way is an exception or aberration.

In that context the situation can be quite dicey for her. If she were to be democratic and easy – going the people surrounding her would exploit it to their advantage. Instead of appreciating her conduct they would very likely regard it as a weakness to take advantage.

An Indian editor once told me of an incident that happened in 1988. The ADMK had split after MGR’s death and both factions were trying to take control of the party headquarters building. When Jayalalithaa joined demonstrators party supporters mobbed her.

Sadly , she had to be rescued by the Police from her own supporters. Jayalalithaa used to wear pure white sarees with a thin border then. The Indian editor told me that her Saree and blouse were full of grubby finger marks. Apparently her supporters had used the opportunity to try and fondle her or squeeze her.

In later life she had her own set of bodyguards to prevent supporters from getting close to her. There was an urge on the part of some males not merely to simply touch her but also do something else if they could.

When she entered politics many party members were dazzled by her beauty and easy accessibility. They were extra – attentive to her and ever ready to make physical contact. A regional leader called “Pazhakkadai” Pandi went ballistic once on stage. He was reprimanded by MGR.

Thereafter the order went out from MGR that Jayalalithaa should be treated with reverence. This changed the situation. Soon party people showed great subservience to her. Slowly she was promoted as a superior, cult figure.

After MGR’s death Jayalalithaa was quite vulnerable. It was then that she realised she had to assert unquestionable superiority over her party people to remain in control. Superiority and not equality was necessary. The followers had to be put in place as inferiors.

This she began to do. Soon she became an authoritative figure. She grew into her role and her inherent traits of arrogance came to the fore.

She humiliated her followers to show who was boss and trampled them underfoot. Incredible as it may seem they seem to like it with even highly educated professionals paying pooja horizontally to the boss lady.

Her detractors and political rivals continue to attack her on what they think are her weak spots. She is called “anthap Pombiley” (that woman) or “Paapaathy” (Brahmin woman) often.

Once when she was in the opposition a DMK minister Duraimurugan tried to strip her in the Assembly.

When she raised a question the present chief minister Karunanidhi replied “Go and ask Sobhan Babu”. This was a Telugu film star with whom Jayalalithaa was involved romantically at one stage.

Even recently the DMK deputy – leader Anbalaghan retorted to a charge by her derisively asking her about her “past”

This state of affairs may help to understand the reasons for her arrogant conduct but it certainly cannot condone it

Moreover there is a vicious, vindictive streak to her that often manifests itself in controversial ways.

There was a woman administrative officer (IAS) Chandralekha with whom she had a diagreement. Soon acid was thrown u goondas on Chandralekha’s face.

As Chief Minister she abused her authority and incarcerated her rival Karunanidhi. The Police carried the howling man away.

When maverick politico Dr. Subramaniam Swamy fell foul of her Jayalalithaa organized a hostile reception for him in Chennai. Members of the ADMK woman league raised their sareees and in a protest demonstration.

“Subramanian Swamy has met his waterloo” gloated Jayalalithaa publicly. “I will send Jayalalithaa to the loo without water” reorted Swamy.

Due to a dispute with the Kachipuram Holy man Sri Jayendra Swamigal, Jayalalitha went to the extent of getting him arrested on what seemed to be false charges.

Jayalalithaa was corrupt to the core. Together with her “Life friend” (uyirtholi) Sasikala Nadarajah the duo engaged in massive corruption. Sasikala was like a woman Friday to her. Their corruption and amassed wealth has often been publicised in the media.

Jayalalithaa was arrested after her downfall in 1996 on corruption charges. Newspapers were full of stories about her assets and properties. Her corpulence was a sign of her ill – gotten opulence.

Jayalalithaa’s relationship with Saikala is a controversial issue for Tamil Nadu. They are seemingly inseparable. Sasikala who is caled “Sinnamma” by party people wields enormous influence.

Whatever her deficiencies Jayalalithaa remains a towering figure in Tamil Nadu politics.

Jayalalithaa’s arch rival Karunanidhi is an octogenarian. After his demise there will be no one to match Jayalalithaa in stature and popularity.

She will then be the solitary moon among lesser stars in the Tamil Nadu political firmament.

  1. great picture of Jayalalithaa madam in dark and lite blue colors. What a lovely woman she was then. As DBS said Ammu was a ravishing beauty really. Now she is older but there is a golden glow that makes her shine brightly

  2. CONGRATS TO PURATCHI THALAIVI. SHE WILL SEE THAT MAHINDA IS CHARGED IN CRIMINAL COURTS LIKE MILOSEVIC. SHE WILL CRUSH ALL ENEMIES OF TAMILS UNDER HER LOTUS FEET

  3. Thank you for reproducing this very interesting article again MR.jeyaraj.I remember reading it earlier but reading it again was timely and captivating .

  6. rather interesting article i guess i have read when it was published for the first time.jayalalitha is an interesting politician not only becoz she was a successfull actress but becoz she had the brain.i remember i used to read old illustrated weeklies while i was in college.i came across an article which featured many personalities of different backgrounds who were asked why they were a hindu?i saw jayalalithas reply in that.it was quite surprising becoz most of the personalities who were interviewed were intellectuals and to bund jayalalitha with them was itself a big achievement.to be honest sometimes i take pride in jayalalithaa becoz she is a fellow brahmin but at the same time certains acts of her puts me off.i guess the reason why she has such a personality is becoz of her family background and the life she squandered after entering the film world at such a young age.as you have mentioned she stood second in sslc ie 10th standard examination and if she had pursued her education further she would have definitely become a doctor or an engineer.unfortunately destiny proved otherwise she had to enter kollywood and then politics at the behest of her political mentor m.g.r.woman is a woman however powerful she may be.she has a normal aspirations which every woman has a good husband, children.unfortunately jayalalitha aspired for but she could not get all these things hence i guess her personality has been shaped by these traumatic events.one hopes that as she has become old in her own words she had said that as she becomes old she gains maturity she will be much more mature and will handle political problems in a much more gentler way.my fervent hope is that jayalalitha should atleast change her policies towards srilankan tamils.previously srilankan tamils were tarred with same brush as tamil tigers now that tigers have been defeated jayalaitha should support tamil political struggle much more resolutely.i guess her tirade against rajapakshe is a good beginning.congratulations jayalalitha amma we hope that this tenure will be the one to cherish.

  7. Karunanithi family involved in frauds amounts to billions. I hope Jeyalalithaa too try the same. She is barking like a silly dog and know how to fool the cine addicted tamil fools!

What the hell she can do against Rajapakse? Tamil Nadu CM is not the PM of India! The alliance of DMK-Congress will continue till the next parliamentary elections. If Jeyalalitha try to fool about the Lankan issue, she too may be tried in the courts where many cases are pending against her!

She cant even book Karunanithi for frauds or any other issue in Tamil Nadu. Then how can this foolish woman tell she can bring Mahinda to the HR tribunals?

Congress and its allies swept other states in the assembly elections. She is not a supporter of LTTE any way and the pro-LTTE elements will be in trouble in Tamil nadu. She already chased out GOPALASAMY.

  8. The old article was a good compliation DBSJ. Full of facts.

Will she be gud this time, seems we in TN dont look for alternatives apart from DMK and ADMK.

including Thenuwara who likes to get trampled by her when she gets in and out of her vehicle.

Don’t underestimate mahinda. He is the jungle man of the south srilanka and has already crushed the jungle man of north srilanka. It will be difficult for jaya to catch tarzan while he swings through the jungle holding the vine.then he will stop on a tree and holler out for his beasts of which there are many “oieeeeeeeeeeeeehooohooooo”.then mervyn silva and his 18 suicide bombers will come like the yal devi at jayalalitha.

  10. “மொழியும் நாடும் முகத்துக்கு இரண்டு விழிகள் ஆகும் என்று
உணரும்போது உனக்கும் எனக்கும் நன்மை என்றும் உண்டு” IS s. Jayalalithaa going to adhere to these lyrics in the above Adimai Penn song by Valli –

“When realized language and country are two eyes of the face, we all benefit” ? (rough transation)

  11. My plea to Jeyalalithaa: adore the ordinary SL Tamils and create the necessary environment for them to live in peace, dignity and freedom but keep the followers of Pirabaharan at a distance as she she has done in the past.

I trust she will pay careful attention to the good governance in her administration.

She is a remarkable person. I have watched a few high profile interviews given by her. Though she has not studied beyond matriculation I was flabbergasted to watch the quality of interview given by her.

  12. Well researched, well written and timely. I do not know how I missed this article when first published in 2008.

As you explain, she had to fight in three fronts to exert her prominence. As a woman, as a film star, as a high caste Brahmin it was not easy for her to come to the forefront.

Stupid Dravidian (Extremist) in South India in the name of breaking the backbone of Brahmin caste dominance went overboard in many things. I am a Dravidian; I am a Tamil and I am proud about it. But, I hate these Dravidian extremists. Dravidian extremism is only for political exploitation. The Great Tamil leader Dr. K. also has Brahmin connection in his family, but Brahmin bashing is only to hoodwink gullible ordinary people.

Portraying Brahmins as Aryans was not right. As Swami Sangarachariar once said they are not only Tamils, they are Dravidians too.

Only mistake the Brahmin did was venerating Sanskrit as Deva Basha, the language of Gods. As a Hindu I am asking what is wrong in it. If I say Sanskrit is Deva Basha it does not mean Tamil is second to it. We use Sanskrit in our temples, and recite mantras in Sanskrit to invoke the blessings of Gods. Calling it Deva Basha is not a crime. We are confusing Tamil (and other languages too) with Sanskrit, and that is the problem.

Tamil Nadu Muslims use Arabic (like other Muslims around the world) for their prayers etc. But their love for Tamil is immense. And no one says they are not Tamils.

But it is only for Brahmins they use different yardstick. It is very unfair. And Ms. J had to face and fight this discrimination. As you rightly said she also had to fight male chauvinist, which you find dime a dozen in India.

Educated Brahmin caste women are always bold unlike other castes among Tamils. There are very beautiful Tamil women (more beautiful than Ms. J) in other castes. But they did not have the nerves to come to cine field. At least Tamil cinema now is better than before. At one point Tamils like Vyjantimala, Reka (Gemini Ganeshan Daughter) etc. had to go North and became poplar as Hindi Actress, they were not respected and recognized in Tamil Nadu. Tamils being conservative it was a taboo for women in Cinema.

Contribution to the Tamil language, literature, Culture by Tamil Brahmins is enormous. Mahakavi Bharathi (Poet), Rukmani Arundel (Bharatha Natiyam, Dance of the Tamils) are just a few to mention, there are thousands.

Ms. J was also corrupt, but this time she will be extremely careful. Seeman (Nam Thamilar), Vijekanth (Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kalagam), Spectrum Scandal all together contributed to her landslide victory. If she is sincere and honest she will be the queen of TN for years to come. But she has to be watchful of her Yes Madam, Right Madam associates, however much she wanted to maintain transparency and honesty these people can lead her to the bottom.

I don’t think after Dr. K. DMK will have a bright future. There is no one in the party as smart and shrewd as Dr. K.

But she has to be causes about Seeman and Vijekanth, they too are very smart.

  15. lol, what a foolish but funny comment. Sarath Fonseka> “tamil nadu jokers”, classic statement that must be remembered all time
Mister veerathamilan, first learn to believe in yourself.

  16. Dear sir

Jayalalitha was not corrupt to the core as you claim. All charges (of bribes to $15m) were proven as fabricated in court and she was acquitted. Karunanidhi was the most corrupt politician (of bribes amounting $40,000m) in the Tamil World. Back in the Seventies, President’s Rule was clamped due to the massive muster roll scandal. Only then MGR came to power.

DMK faces existential threat due to Karunanidhi’s greed and nepotism.

  17. Another great article by DBS. Having said that, i have a different view on JJ. This woman has fooled the people of TN and the Eelam Tamils. Here’s why:

As far as TN Tamils go, JJ who ran against the Congress Ally DMK, is now ready to join with the very same Congress. She never criticised Congress the past month. She has accepted for having Tea with the Italian woman Antonia Sonia. The DMK Congress nexus is only for the next week or two. The Congress will then dump DMK and tie up with AIADMK and the loot will continue.

As far as Eelam Tamils go, JJ never really liked Eelam Tamils. She hated Vaiko for his popularity among the Tamil Diaspora. She had him jailed and then apologised with Crocodile Tears. Then she used Vaiko and then early this March, seeing the wave against DMK, she duped and dumped Vaiko. A leopard cannot change its spots and that is JJ. Vaiko rightfully decided against contesting the polls. Only time will reveal the result. To the Eelam Tamils is say…Please dont fall for this woman’s gimmicks. After all it was the Indians in Delhi that helped in the massacres of Tamils and JJ will soon be hand in glove with them for looting TN.

JJ has already started her ‘Porukki’ behaviour. The residence of S V Sekar was attacked the night the results were announced, so as to set an example. Why target his family and not fight it politically? This time around, JJ will close Kalaignar TV and then in six months off will go Sun TV. She will use goons to hound the DMK guys in retaliation. She will loot the state to pay for the 80,000 Crores Election Promises. Tamilnadu will rapidly go to the dogs!

One should never forget this womans past! Do read:

    http://www.rediff.com/news/1996/0712shob.htm

    Enough said!

  18. Great article DBS saar!

It is true as you observe that MGR had a soft spot for Ammu’s attractive feet. In many films he will have scenes where he will touch her feet. One scene I recall is in “Kanavan” where she tramples hot tar and MGR rushes to her help by placing her feet on his lap and rubs the tar off from her soles.

But not only MGR even Sivaji had scenes in films with Jayalalithas feet. In “Tharmam Engay” Sivaji places her feet on his lap and ties anklets to her ankles

So what the top heroes did on films her supporters are doing in real life. After her victory everybody will fall at her feet

  19. But I do believe that Mahinda has met his match, may be she is more than a match for him. Vallavanukkku Vallavan Vaiyagathil unndo. And also ethanai kaalam thaan ematruvaar indha naatile, ungal nattile and also engal naatile.

There are reports that during the previous DMK regime the family members of the DMK had business understanding with the MR and brothers. It has to be studied now.

See the spicejet which was acquired by the Maran brothers had started a Colombo service immediately after the war was over.

May be Amma will see into these matters.

  20. Jacob

You must be one of her sycophants to deny she is not corrupt to the core. Most probably you must be from God’s own country as your name suggests. That she was acquitted by the courts does not mean she is clean. In fact the independece of the judiciary was tainted when she was acquitted. In one of the prominent cases it was reported that she bought the judge to get a favorable judgement. The judge in this case, anticipating a public outcry, left the country and was in London when the judgement was read.

  21. Here is an excerpt from an article in the hindustan times

[Last September, when the 2G scam broke out, Jayalalithaa had expressed readiness to join hands with the Congress if it dumped the DMK, which has 18 Lok Sabha MPs, and secure the required numbers for the UPA.

Though the AIADMK has nine MPs in the LS, Jayalalithaa had told the Conagress that she could have offset the loss of the DMK’s support by mobilising the numbers by roping in the support of other parties.

The Congress then said the DMK remained its ally and “a bird in hand was worth more than two in the bush”.]

This excerpt clearly shows the direction jaya wants to go since last september. What a woman wants a woman gets. She is going to tell sonia now that instead of a bird in hand congress got a dud in hand and better to have 2 birds in the bush.Once she gets into the congress alliance the fun will start for karunanithi and family running around in the courts.

What are the implications when jaya joins the congress alliance? Will she go soft on mahinda at the instigation of another woman sonia and her cabal consisting of powerful keralite ministers and drivers and cooks?Or will she stand firm and continue with her war crime rhetoric?

I think her immediate concern will be to grind the DMK into the dust with the congress not protecting them, with their last 31 seats and all, especially take revenge on the karu family and cronies. That will keep her occupied very enjoyably for quite some time.Until then the the srilankan tamils can go and have a bath, but of course frequently starting with the election result, all the necessary utterences against mahinda will be made, but with no follow up action at all.It will be tea and italian cup cakes with sonia.I feel there is a chemistry and mutual admiration between the two,as two remarkable women who have come up in a male dominated society, with sheer boldness, beauty and brains.

  22. DBS saar

Just to continue with my observations about Jayalalithaa madam’s fair and lovely feet.

Not only MGR and Sivaji but other actors also liked to touch her feet in scenes. Jaishankar,Muthuraman, Ravichandran, Kalyanakumar, Rajkumar, NT Ramarao, Krishna, Shoban Babu all touched or grasped her feet in film scenes

Madam Jayalalithaas best feet kisser was I think Ravichandran. In the silver jubilee hit “Naan” he catches her foot in his hands, kisses and sings a verse praising her “paadangal” or feet.

  23. Mahinda is the President of Sri Lanka. Jeyalalithaa ? A bed mate of old MGR! Soon she will nail the pro-LTTE elements because she still wear the bullet proof jacket!

  24. She will ask MR to open some DOSA kada outlets in Colombo! That is the maximum she can do!

  25. I remember Jeyalaitha in swimming suits in many Tamil films. I think she was the first Tamil heroine to act in a swim suit. she could do that because she had a stunning figure. She was a beauty in bikini. Bombshell

  26. Hi DBS saar

Just another thing I remembered about madam jayalalithaas fair and lovely feet.

There is this scene in the Tamil film “moondreluthu”. A color film with Ravichandran.

There is a song scene “Kaadalan vandhaan” where she takes a bath. The camera focuses on her beautiful feet only as she walks up to the bath tub. With her toe nails painted in red we see only her rosy red feet walking for many seconds

What a gorgeous sight. When you see that scene anyone will agree that madam Jayalalithaas feet are indeed golden and lotus like

I think that was the best exposure of her fair and lovely “Thamarai potpaadangal”

  27. I was her fan those days in my teens. When I look at her fat sight now I can only think of those days when she looked like a goddess and sigh

  28. Mahinda trying to woo the Jayalalitha to get her support for chasing out LTTE Tamil terrorist from Tamilnadu state

  29. It was after she acted in Aadiparasakthi film as goddess Parvathi that she got worshipped as living goddess. people framed pictures of her as goddess in film and worshipped lighting katpooram and putting flowers

When she came to my village area for film shooting in 1973 I saw with my own eyes how illiterate villagers flocked up to her and fell on ground before her and worshipped.

After a scene was shot where she acted with bare feet she came back to her chair and her servant woman brought basin of water and put her legs in it and washed the dirt out of her feet. When the servant woman was drying jeyalaithas feet with a towel after washing them one of the light boys took the basin and asked her fans to line up and drink theertham.
People waited in line and drank the dirty water in which her feet was washed like holy water and shouted arohara

yes she was a living goddess then and now also

  30. It was good to hear the song Amma Andral Anbu sung by jeyalaita in adimai penn. Her first song in films. She has a creamy croony voice. I like her singing

  31. “Appeal to Jaylalith, play once in life role in the history of tamils.”

Tell her the plight of Tamil women, suffered at the hands of Singala regime.
Show them the pictures of the women who have raped and murdered by the regime. Get her firmly on our side.

Let her me True heroine. Be the Kanaki.. who seek justice. Let hre seek justice from Tamils.
She will go in history, the greatest leader of tamil people.

  32. x srilankan

Appeal to Jaylalith, play once in life role in the history of tamils.”
    ———————————————————————————

You fogot main point. She was a chief minister before KD. What did she doing for tamils. Therefore do not dreaming in day time.

  33. OUR AMMA IS THERE. SHE KNOWS EVERYTHING. WHAT CAN WE TELL HER WHICH SHE DOES NOT KNOW ALREADY?

SHE KNOWS HOW TO SOLVE ALL THE PROBLEMS OF THE TAMILS IN THE TN AND ALSO SHE KNOWS HOW TO SOLVE ALL THE PROBLEMS THE TAMILS FACE IN SRI LANKA.

  34. Those days singala racists chanted slogan supporting sirimavo like this

    “Appey amma maga enawaa
    haal cheru thekka thenawaa
    Thosai vadai appitta eppaa”

Now after puratchi thalaivi Jeyalaitha ammas victory we Tamils tell the Singala racists the same way with changes

    “Appey Amma (Jeyalalitha)Lanka enwaa
    Mahinda mamata vada thenawaa
    kavun,kiribath appitta eppaa”

  35. I have seen some of her movies when I was a boy. I used to go with my Tamil neighbours down vaverset place, wellawatte. I must say I enjoyed them and confess I had a crush on her in my mid teens. she had oomph!

  36. dear DBS Anna

Thank you for posting this article again. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.Learnt lots of new info and also got an idea of how she has managed to tame a state and bring it under her command

  37. She cant solve her own problems in TN. She is a problem creator than solver. She was the main cause of the DMK split! Further she is a CM and not PM!

  38. Didn’t you know there is enough DOSA kada in Colombo where singalse in queue for DOSA?
Now ask MR to tuch Indian fisherman to know what maximum she can do?

  39. Jeyalalitha is democratic leader and she rule bigger than srilanka where your president is warcriminal
and still live in ‘Emergency Law’. Don’t forget Mahinda also bed mate of former SL Model.

  40. End is all villans will be muted not ‘Hero still live’ in all our hearts.

  41. Jeyalalithaa’s statement to declare Rajapakse as a War criminal is from a leader of Tamils almost three times of Sri Lankan population.

When Tamil Nadu agitated Rajiv Gandhi has sent the planes over Jaffna and later IPKF was in Tamil areas. If Tamil Nadu politics become chauvinistic like the Sri Lankan politics, India will have to either occupy Tamil areas in Sri Lanka or request for UN forces over there.

Whenever Indian politics change, the Sinhala regimes will get a chill and this will go on until Tamils get their Eelam.

  42. Dear fiends,

    WESAK FULL MOON DAY

Today is wesak fulll moon day. Entire Sri lanka irrespect of religian differenciation is prepairing for wesak. When I was in Kandy I saw a wesak greeting banner in HINDU CENTRE in town too.

I remember a Buddha song which was written by Dr, Hewawitharana in the year 1915 in the prision. Due to SINHALA- MUSLIM strugle taht took place in 1915 he with other buddhist leaders were imprisend.

  43. When people pray their god they should know what they are praying for.If they don’t understand what they are praying, there is no involvement. In any religion, people should pray in their language. I belive Tamil christians are doing great in this issue. Rome swithched the prayers from Latin to Tamil long time back.

  44. But she will stand up for the rights of the Tamils there. Mahinda has to be careful from now onwards. She is not like MK who can sell anything for the sake of his family’s wealth and fortune.

Amma means business. You have to be careful with her.

She may be a CM and not a PM. But she is the CM of a state which is thrice the population of the Sri Lanka.

  45. Personally I don’t think she will do good to Tamils in Sri Lanka. SO many posting for this article shows SL Tamils still live in the dreams of romatic movies and their actors and actresses. SHame.

  46. JJ is not a person who will discard the Sri Lankan Tamils. Remember during the last stages of the war she spoke in favour of the LTTE, if I remember right. Now she talks about the political solution to the Tamils.

Her words carry more weight than that of MK.

She will follow it up with actions.

  47. Almost 3 times is long past. Now there are more than 72 million in tamilnadu while srilanka’s population is 22 million.

  48. In srilanka she would have been forced to drink the water if she had asked others to do so.

  49. My dear mahesh

If she spoke in favour of LTTE,that must be because she knew they were going to be dead very soon.As far as i can remember she had been one of their harshest critics and i was wondering at one time whether our madman would bump her off too.In fact i think once they issued an ultimatum to her to shut her mouth or face the consequences and she quietened down a bit.

She is definitely better for the tamils in srilanka as well as the tamils in tamilnadu compared to the DMK which should have been in the geriactric ward. However you got to understand due to the mismanagement of the DMK,the tamilnadu coffers are in a parlous state and the problems are immense. Her first duty is to the people who elected her and she won’t like to be getting involved in a long brawl with streetfighters like the rajapakshes and getting distracted from her duties. She will little by little try to use her influence with the central government to bring some relief to the tamils in srilanka but that will take some time because she has to get settled and then has to try to influence sonia. Don’t forget that she will have a tough time in that task because sonia and manmohan are heavily influenced by the pro rajapakshe keralite cabal of powerful ministers. So she has a formidable task indeed to put tamilnadu back as a powerful state and don’t expect much too soon.karu’s mob has brought tamilnadu to a pathetic state because they were only interested in ministerial positions in order to make money, not to enhance the power and prestige of the state indiawise, whereas the keralites are really running india at the moment and seem to be doing a good job of it,because india is doing well by international standards.

With regard to the fishermen of course she will crack down hard on srilanka if their stunts continue. That and if srilanka goes on a personal attck on her, then she could very well as you say do something sooner than later, but i don’t think the crafty mahinda will make that mistake. He will be careful not to irritate her unnecessarily.

  50. With regard to the fishermen of course she will crack down hard on srilanka if their stunts continue.

    ——-

Since TNA has one foot in TN, MR would do nothing about Indians poaching in Sri Lankan waters as long as they don’t stray into waters off Western province.

Why should he? TNA is already going to meet JJ to ask her to prosecute MR and its just a simple matter for TNA to request her to prevent Indians from poaching if they want to. But I doubt very much that TNA would make that request. On the contrary they would come back to Colombo and blame MR for not doing anything.

MR won’t fall into this trap. So he will allow Indians to take the Jaffna catch until such time SL Tamils figure out where their allegiances lie. Of course if the Indians push their luck and start eating into catch of Sinhalese, then of course they will find themselves in jail.

Now Jaffna fishermen association is coming to Colombo to meet MR. But still not even a squeak from TNA on the matter!

  51. As for as Tamil SL issue all the political parties take same stand, either DMK or ADMK, rest follow them, except Vaiko. But Vaiko not in limelight and no back-up will be hard for him to break on any issues.

Outstanding issues in SL is to rehab the left over population, better conditions in the camps, growth options. I read somewhere in AV magazine that the North SL is becoming a mafia-like land, with no law and order, basic amenities, gang-wars, prostitution… I also came to knw that SL govt. is planning to adopt the Isreali model to settlements in the Tamil Dominant areas.

  52. DBS Annan

You have said about incident when Jeyalalitha amma was threatened by Kannada mob to deny she was Tamil but she bravely refused. Can you write more about it please so we can know about it?

Yes. I will do so soon……….DBSJ

  53. I dont know about foot fetish or anything like that but I must say Jeyalalitha does have beautiful feet. I was in my teens when Jayalalitha was queen of Tamil cinema. We as teenagers used to follow her fashion. I remember she used to wear a set of sandals and chappals in differentcolours to match her dresses. We used to search high and low to buy similiar footwear. I even got an aunty to buy me Golapur chappals like hers. We girls used to eagerly watch scenes of her feet on screen and dutifully copy her footwear. But none of the friends in my circle including me had pretty feet like Jeyalaitha. Compared to her feet ours was like dust on feet(Kaal thoosu)

  54. As a brahmin from Tamil Nadu it gives me great pleasure and pride to see my fellow caste sister (Iyengaar)Jayalaithaa Jayaram being crowned as Queen of Tamil Nadu for third time.

After listening to anti -brahmin crap and abuse from Dravidian extremists for decades it is refreshing to see that a brahmin woman derisively described as Paapaathy has become the Ithaya theivam and puratchy thalaivi of these unwashed, unkempt dravidian hordes

It is so amusing to see these Dravidians falling at the feet of the great Aryan goddess Jayalalithaa and worshipping the brahmin beauty. They kiss the ground her feet treads and wipe the dust of her footprints on foreheads like holy ash.

O foolish dravidians.Know now that we brahmins are indeed your superiors and learn to live accordingly

  55. Idiot! Sri Lanka is another country and Tamil Nadu still under Indian Union. I think you are so shallow in political knowledge. JJ can bring Sasikala and dance on the road. Who cares about that bitch!

  56. Indian Tamils were not great suppporters of LTTE, especially after Rajiv assasination. jayalalitha too is not an exception.

During Post LTTE saga, Some Tamils believed Indian Govt will do its best part to resolve the SL ethnic issue. Some others thought, GOSL will do some thing to resolve it.

Indian Govt ignored SL tamils, just because people in Tamilnadu voted for congress. Now TN has shown the door to Congress.

over the past 2 years, there was a resentment building up in Tamilnadu, that Congress Government is intentionally ignoring the plight of SL Tamils and DMK was viewed as an impotent party. Added to this, there are corruption charges against DMK for TN people to vote for JJ.

JJ is very strong in her opinions on SL issue and SL tamils can expect some positive movements from Tamilnadu and India.

  57. What about equal rights to men and women or tamils and sinhalese? Now u 2 talking is porn & rubbish as usuall.

  58. you idiots!!! there better things to do in this world than flirting with a woman’s feet. shut up!!!!!!

  59. dear Jeyaraj Annan

Thank you for this interesting article about Jeyalaitha who was my mother’s favourite actress during childhood.

Both my mum and I would like to know more about the incident you have mentioned about Jeyalalitha remaining brave in the face of a mob and asserting that she was a Tamil

I note someone else has also requested you to write about it and you agreed.May we also add our requests to that. Please write about it Annan. Thanks

I will write about it soon………..DBSJ

  60. shankar

Your May 10th analysis addressed to Mahesh was good. Just like to add two points in view of her past record.

    1. She is highly unpredictable.
    2. In order to be in power she will do anything and everything.

  61. Jeyalalitha on seeing this may want to hug and kiss you and make you the minister for media press related matters.

  62. I am also a Brahmin, but I object to your saying ‘O foolish dravidians.Know now that we brahmins are indeed your superiors and learn to live accordingly’.

Brahminism is a concept. Many non-brahmins have become brahmins and many brahmins have become non-brahmins.

That is a different and a controversial subject. Unless DBSJ starts such a topic I would be constrained not to talk much into that topic.

I regret to all those people who might have been hurt by the statements of Anthanan.

  63. Don’t inflame the situation unnnecessarily by stating that TNA is going to meet Jaya to ask for mahinda’s prosecution. Did they say so?Are you a mind reader?

As for the fish catch in the north, the tamils will welcome tamilnadu fishermen taking all of it,because the rajapakshes have made it abundantly clear that the sinhalese fisherfolk are going to be settled all over the northern coast and the soldiers and their families are going to be settled in the interior.

No longer is the tamils living in srilanka going to be a bulwark and buffer as in history between the sinhalese and the tamils living in tamilnadu. At that time there was an alliance between the kandyan kingdom and the jaffna kingdom. Now the alliance is broken up by the rajapakshes with their settlement policies.Tamils in srilannka will just step aside and let the 16 million sinhalese take on the 72 million tamils living in tamilnadu who are bursting at the seams and want land and marine resources. Tamils living in srilanka may even act as a trojan horse and open the gates to troy.

You are wasting your time trying to pit the fishermen srilanka with the fishermen of tamilnadu. The diaspora will advise any foolish members who fall for that ruse.

If you think the tamilnadu fishermen are going to stop with the fish catch of the north and leave the rest of srilanka as it is you are living in gond wondaland.Once you allow the north to be fished you have sent them a message that it is okay to infringe the territorial sovereignity of srilanka, and you will regret that later. Also the sinhalese fishermen yu are settling will clash with the taml fishermen from tamilnadu and there won’t be any fish for them too and they will go back and find that the same thing is happening in the waters that they left. The waters of srilanka will only be the first stage. The next stage will be the land.

Your’s and the rajapakshe’s ideas are a good example of sinhalese trying to be too smart since independence and having it backfiring.

  64. War Criminal? Where? Model? hahaha Is it a film story? But JJ was sleeping with MGR only?

Further Your road shitting Indian Tamils have no votes in Sri Lanka!

    Now JJ bend to congress!

  65. Don’t inflame the situation unnnecessarily by stating that TNA is going to meet Jaya to ask for mahinda’s prosecution. Did they say so?Are you a mind reader?

    ——–

I take it back. TNA is going there to ask her to go easy on MR!

    ——–

As for the fish catch in the north, the tamils will welcome tamilnadu fishermen taking all of it,

    ——–

Then why the hell is Northern Fishermen Association coming to Colombo to meet MR asking for a solution? Why were they picketing infront of Indian consulate in Jaffna not so long ago?

    ————

because the rajapakshes have made it abundantly clear that the sinhalese fisherfolk are going to be settled all over the northern coast and the soldiers and their families are going to be settled in the interior.

    ————

I think you know very well what a hypocritical self-centered argument this is. Tamils and Tamil terrorists have been colonizing Colombo for the past 30 years while North was off limits to the Sinhalese. So what’s wrong with settling some Sinhalese be they fishermen or soldiers in the N. Certainly MR is not settling any Sinhalese suicide bombers in the N no? Even Mervin Silva has only 25 of them. Not to worry. VP had lot more Tamil suicide bombers settled in Colombo. Only God knows how many of his Manchurian soldiers are still there.

    ————-

No longer is the tamils living in srilanka going to be a bulwark and buffer as in history between the sinhalese and the tamils living in tamilnadu. At that time there was an alliance between the kandyan kingdom and the jaffna kingdom. Now the alliance is broken up by the rajapakshes with their settlement policies.Tamils in srilannka will just step aside and let the 16 million sinhalese take on the 72 million tamils living in tamilnadu who are bursting at the seams and want land and marine resources. Tamils living in srilanka may even act as a trojan horse and open the gates to troy.

    ——

That is exactly what TNA is– a bloody Trojan horse. If your own post and fishermen issue suggests anything that is TNA is not pursuing the interests of local people but following the commands of Diaspora. May be Dilshan is right– if there is alternative leadership, Tamils of N & E would take a different stand.

    ——

You are wasting your time trying to pit the fishermen srilanka with the fishermen of tamilnadu. The diaspora will advise any foolish members who fall for that ruse.

    ——

I’m not pitting anyone against anyone else. I’m simplying observing that:
    1) Contrary to what you tout, Sri Lankan fishermen do not want Indians steeling their catch.
    2) TNA has the capability to take the matter up with JJ but won’t because they do not want to spoil their relations since TNA intends to use her against MR
    3) In fact its more pathetic than that. TNA wants MR to take the matter up with India because that will spoil ties between MR and India.

So its really the TNA and Diaspora who are trying to pit GOSL and GOI.

“diaspora will advise” … pooh! They certainly are advising TNA. I here that the last face-to-face meeting between TNA and Diaspora was in Singapore.

    ——

If you think the tamilnadu fishermen are going to stop with the fish catch of the north and leave the rest of srilanka as it is you are living in gond wondaland.Once you allow the north to be fished you have sent them a message that it is okay to infringe the territorial sovereignity of srilanka, and you will regret that later.

The next stage will be the land.

Your’s and the rajapakshe’s ideas are a good example of sinhalese trying to be too smart since independence and having it backfiring.

    ——

What has backfired on Rajapaksha? All seem to indicate that both India and China are quite content with him.

Brahminism is a concept. Many non-brahmins have become brahmins and many brahmins have become non-brahmins.

    Mahesh,

    Lord Buddha told

    NA JACHCHA WASALO HOTHI
    NA JACHCHA HOTHI BRAHMANA
    KAMMANA WASALO HOTHI
    KMMANA HOTHI BRAHMANA
    Meaning,
By a birth there is no Brahman or wasala. By diong things it is vishualise whether he is Brahmana or not.

What my opening is by birth you may be a brahmana but by performance you are not Brahmana but a WASALA.

Reason is you don’t have a balance mind. You always trying to de grade sinhalees.

  67. This is the last thing that we want to hear from a Brahmin like Anandan. We, SL Tamils, have a special place in our society for Brahmins as they sacrifice their live for the service of the god. Reading his tirade, I am sure many, as I did, would have disappointed that he did not alive to the fact that he was writing to a larger audience than TN Tamils. I doubt Anandan is in fact a Brahmin as he claims. It is apparent that this person wants to hijack the focus of this topic to somewhere by touching on a sensitive issue so he could see the infighting from a distance. Hope people will not fall prey to his trap. If he is what he says he is, you would not bark at a dog, because it barks at you, would you. Thanks Mahes, good mop up and it helps quell the situation.

  68. I will continue to do so, even if means I have to be treated like a wasala. My Tamil people are my soul and I cannot just walk away from their plights.

  69. Dear Sir, you are using unparliamentary words. If it is your culture go ahead.

Wait and see what Amma could do or not do. Don’t brag that you are another country. I also know that you are another country and Tamil Nadu is under Indian Union.

Wait and see. Just because that Pakistan was another country India didn’t keep away from the happenings in the East Pakistan.

Your soveregnity doesn’t give you freedom to kill Tamils, there.

  70. Mahesh I also read Anthanan’s comment. But I didn’t want to comment on a trash like that. The name Anthanan he had used itself shows he is not a Brahamin. He is a Dravidian extremist using this blog to divide Tamils on caste basis. What he doesn’t understand is the fact that Tamil Brahmins are also Dravidians. Unfortunately these extremist don’t have a reasoning they cling to dead and gone EVR’s (Periyar)doctrine. Don’t worry about this guy.

  71. Shalini

Both Tamil and Sanskrit emerged from Lord Shiva Peruman, and they are equally sacred to us.

There are Tamil hymns and Sanskrit hymns sung in Hindu Kovils.

There are Tamil translations available for all Sanskrit manthirams, for those who are interested in knowing the meaning.

Manthirams (Mantra) carry spiritual vibrations that are beneficial for those who chant or listen.

Are you going to tell Tamil Muslims to stop praying in Arabic?

    —————

Is not settling some Sinhalese in the Tamil land in the North will create more competition for the people already there.

    ———————

That is exactly what TNA is– a bloody Trojan horse. If your own post and fishermen issue suggests anything that is TNA is not pursuing the interests of local people but following the commands of Diaspora. May be Dilshan is right– if there is alternative leadership, Tamils of N & E would take a different stand.

    —————————–

Any political party has to serve the interests of the people that have elected them to power. They have to see a larger picture. If the TNA does not do that then it will get marginalized.

The Tamil fisherman’s attitude will be ‘You Sinhalese have come into our place and taking our catch, ruining our livelihood; why not the Indian fishermen do the same to you? This strand of thought will also be there.

    —————————–

I’m not pitting anyone against anyone else. I’m simplying observing that:
    1) Contrary to what you tout, Sri Lankan fishermen do not want Indians steeling their catch.
    2) TNA has the capability to take the matter up with JJ but won’t because they do not want to spoil their relations since TNA intends to use her against MR
    3) In fact its more pathetic than that. TNA wants MR to take the matter up with India because that will spoil ties between MR and India.

    ——————

TNA can only request her. MR can take the issue up with the New Delhi.

    ——————–

“diaspora will advise” … pooh! They certainly are advising TNA. I here that the last face-to-face meeting between TNA and Diaspora was in Singapore.

    —————–

Does diaspora has only one face or many faces?

    ————–

If you think the tamilnadu fishermen are going to stop with the fish catch of the north and leave the rest of srilanka as it is you are living in gond wondaland.Once you allow the north to be fished you have sent them a message that it is okay to infringe the territorial sovereignity of srilanka, and you will regret that later.

    —————–

I accept the comments of Shankar in this.

    —————-

What has backfired on Rajapaksha? All seem to indicate that both India and China are quite content with him

    ——————–

It is naive of you to ask this question now. China is slowly preparing to dump it and also the Russia.

India has already made it known that they have to set right the issues of accountability and the the 13.

Shiv Shankar menon is a dead horse. He was a failure as a Home Minister. He is now in the post of the NSA.

You cannot put all the eggs in one basket.

With Jaya tightening the screws here the New Delhi will have to listen to her words.

Some said that TN is only a state under India whereas SL is a sovereign country. Yes but tamil nadu is not a client state or slave of the New Delhi. Tamil Nadu is well respected in the Nation.

Menon’s premise that with the economic boom the Tamils in the mainland will have lesser interest with the Tamils in the island.

When you get rich you don’t dump your blood relative.

Therefore I say Menon is a dead horse. His understanding is clouded.

Then why the hell is Northern Fishermen Association coming to Colombo to meet MR asking for a solution?

So what’s wrong with settling some Sinhalese be they fishermen or soldiers in the N

TNA is not pursuing the interests of local people but following the commands of Diaspora.

TNA wants MR to take the matter up with India

    _—————————————————

look my friend, if as you say the fishermen came to meet MR,that must be because they feel ther is no point in meeting anyone else. The all powerful presidency can in JR’s own words do anything except change a man from a woman or vise versa. If you have a cake and give three quarters to one person and divide the other quartr between the rest of the peoples representatives, what will be left for each of them. Same for power which is unequally distributed and as a result to do anything to have to get the president’s ear.

The northern fishermen are looking at their immediate needs. They know about the machinations of the medamulama machiavelli who wants to kill two birds with one stone, namely pit them against the tamilnadu fisherman and when they get fed up and leave fishing and move to the interior from the coastal areas, settle it with sinhalese fishermen. Then the navy patrol boats will take their duties very seriously indeed and safeguard the sovereighnity and territorial integrity of srilanka.

So the fishermen are quite right to go to the man who is the masterplanner and show him that they know about his schemes and to please drop it and play a straightforward game.

It is like a game of chess with the fishermen and TNA making the right defensive moves against mahinda’s grand plans to corner them and checkmate. As long as we are playing chess and not using violence these things are okay, but remember when you make an attacking move you also allow openings in your defence. That is why i said not to be too smart. As for what backfiring that you query, the human rights report is the first of a long chain.

As for settling the sinhalese i have made my views abundantly clear in previous posts during the last two years. After the census is over see how many tamils live outside the north including the east and the upcountry. Let us put a ball park figure of 2 million. How many sinhalese are there?Let us say 16 million. That is 12.5 %.tamils are the proportion to the sinhalese outside the north? How many tamils are there in the north?Let us say 750000.Then there should be 750000 muliplied by 12.5% which is about 100000 sinhalese in order to be comparable to the rest of srilanka.

So have the Northern provincial council elections and ask the chief minister to settle 100000 sinhalese. When the figures are given to him he has to accede to the request because it is fair and reasonable. This is the way to do things in a democratic country. There should be talks, intelligent debates and points of view from each other and no violence and we are on the path towards a mature democracy and people.

As for your contention that TNA is not following the interest of the tamil people and are influenced by the diaspora, here we go again TNA bashing. Just as the tamils have to accept the present government as the democratic product of the sinhalese people, the sinhalese also have to accept the TNA as the democratic product of the tamil people. If the sinhalese spew out hardliners the tamils will too.If you want to have the tamils to have representatives whom you like then you should have a softer softer approach. There was nothing to stop mahinda from embarking on a winning the hearts and minds of the tamils approach and get his own supporters elected by the tamils. He ditched that approach and lost the elections among the tamils. He is only the president of the sinhalese people and has only himself to blame for that.

If indeed the TNA is following the diaspora and not the tamil people, how are they continuing to represent them? Are they living in presidential fortresses like mahinda or bunkers like prabhaharan. They are meeting the tamil people on a daily basis and if what you say is true then they would have changed course if necessary.

If you say the TNA wants MR to take the fishermens matter with India they are quite right in doing so. This is a matter between two sovereighn nations, one may be huge and one may be small, but they are both recognised equally in the United Nations and the world and we as srilankans should be proud of that. It is not something between a state in india versus a province in srilanka. We devalue our country if we tell the TNA to take it up with jayalalitha. In effect we are telling the world we are not exactly a sovereighn country when it comes to any dealings with our big neighbour, and we prefer to call ourselves a vassal state of theirs.

  74. Very timely DBSJ, the failure of Sri Lanka’s sinhalese politicians and sinhalese, has been to not only ignore the regional importance of Tamil Nadu and its leaders, but have vilified it in the Sinhalese imagination as historically anti Buddhist and anti Sinhalese. One wonders if good diplomacy and the promotion of cultural links between Tamil Nadu and Colombo , could have averted the disaster of Tamil support for the Tiger cause. MR is now making the rapprochement that was needed years before.

I like your film articles because they show that there is a vibrant cultural exchange and friendly between Southern India and Sri Lanka, not alien hostility.

  75. As for your contention that TNA is not following the interest of the tamil people and are influenced by the diaspora, here we go again TNA bashing. Just as the tamils have to accept the present government as the democratic product of the sinhalese people, the sinhalese also have to accept the TNA as the democratic product of the tamil people

    Agree with your statements above

  76. why cant the Tamils and the sinhalese who are wiling for a power devolution come together and join a democratic front and pressurise the government to come up with a suitable model. If the gov is incapable of doing this lets join hands and suggest a model.

    1. My idea is SL has to redefine its provincial borders. Instead of relying on the british made provinces lets change its borders and come up with like 4 provinces with each including ppl frm every ethnicity. We can have multi ethnic provinces.

    2. The history of SL has to be re examined by impartial historians instead of telling the old story of how wijaya came to SL and then Tamil invadors setled down here. If there were tamil settlements in the north before the formation of sinhala civilisation lets identify the tamils right to claim it sri lankan tamil homeland.

    3. Bringing laws to strengthen the protection of minorities and to prevent future riots like in 1983.I personally do not think a repitition of 1983 would not occur in the future as communication technologies are developed nowadays.

    4. Reformation of the education system. Instead of religion based education system, Lanka has to go for a secular education system. We should allow multiethnic schools where children are open to different cultures. The medium of study from 5th grade onwards should be English. After all in the international level and higher education it is English that is more important than sinhala or tamil.

    5. SL has to change the political structure where there are race/ religion based political parties.

  77. be thankful Jayalalitha was not the Sri Lankan president. If She was born in Sri Lanka she would’ve smashed all the tigers long before 2009.

  78. know how to fool the cine addicted tamil fools!
    _________________________

Yes u exactly describe the TN tamils. From this article written 3yrs ago its apparent the sycophancy of her followers are shameful.

Now I wonder if SL tamils have a different origin from the south indians? As many are more thoughtful and balanced in their political out look than the tamils in TN.

I am glad I was born in Sri Lanka not in TN. When we compare what we have is much better than our neighbours.

I wonder if Mervin Silva is a descendant from TN? He has many characteristics of the TN sycophants.

  79. good one Shankar, after a long time u have come out with the best.

I was wondering if her dreams to have husband & kids(as posted by J. Sriram) could be fulfilled by the jungle boys in SL? Kids mean step children, of course she’s beyond childbearing !!

  80. yes matching couple. MR may divorce Shiranthi and consider toeing with her, the most diplomatic he could be !! Believe me only a G is missing in the middle !!

Shankar u have come out with the best of humor after a long time.
Jungle boy finally finding his match !! Then they will live happily ever after !!

Now I believe that Sri Lankan tamils are not descendants from south india. Sri lankans are far too different in their core values & politics tha south indians.

  81. look my friend, if as you say the fishermen came to meet MR,that must be because they feel ther is no point in meeting anyone else.

Look my friend, I do not have a problem with Tamil fishermen coming to meet the president to get their grievances addressed. I also do not have a problem with Tamil fishermen putting on their tribal/Tamil hat and as per TNA/Diaspora’s advise not recognizing Mahinda Rajapaksha as their president. But I do have a problem when Tamil fishermen try to do both at the same time. You cannot use Sinhalese to get your short term issues sorted out and use Diaspora/TNA to get your long term issues addressed. If that’s your objective, there is no reason why Mahinda should get his hands burnt trying to sort out your problems. You think only Tamils have self respect?

As for your contention that TNA is not following the interest of the tamil people and are influenced by the diaspora, here we go again TNA bashing.

When Tamil fishermen have an issue and TNA is mum about it, what am I to say other than TNA is not addressing issues of locals? Clearly, TNA has its own priorities while fishermen have theirs and the two are not the same. How can merely stating what is happening on the ground be TNA bashing?

Just as the tamils have to accept the present government as the democratic product of the sinhalese people, the sinhalese also have to accept the TNA as the democratic product of the tamil people.

Look I’m not Dilshan. You can point at whoever you want and say that’s your representative and whether that man is a moderate, an extremist, a reformist or a terrorist I don’t care. As far as I’m concerned Tamils have made it abundantly clear through their numerous faces (JJ, DMK, LTTE, TGTE, GTF, BTF, Diaspora, etc…) that they are in the game to have it all and not what’s rightly theirs. As a Sinhalese, IMO, Mahinda should cut the pie in half so that Tamils get their due share and give the Tamil half to their “representative” and not worry about what happens to that half of the pie thereafter. I really hope that the man would do so without delay for Sinhalese people simply do not have the resources to fight the entire world. As to how to cut the pie, we have agreed on that before and I still stand by what I said then.

Whether TNA chooses to address the fishermen issue or let is pass in the greater interest of using JJ to
“checkmate” Mahinda is up to TNA to decide. However, when Tamil fishermen come to meet Mahinda it is perfectly legitimate for him to point out to them that they cannot ask for help face-to-face while backstabbing him through their legitimate representative(s)!!!!

  82. I think you have given some very valid points, but when you give intelligent advice to our people they tremble to make the decision and take the plunge. They only like to talk talk and talk about it. We in western countries know that the westerners are ahead of us because they boldly make the decisions and implement them, but with our people it is only talk.

I agree with all your points which are perfect, except a slight modification of 5 provinces instead of 4,adding the central province.

Also i don’t like to ask our people to get together and talk some more.It will go till the next decade. That is what they will do talk. There is a tried and tested model next door that has worked perfectly for 60 years. Just adopt the indian model for the 5 provinces and move on.

  83. Happy Birthday DBSJ…many happy returns of the day (21/05/2011).
    இனிய பிறந்தநாள் நல்வாழ்த்துக்கள்!

From this your hate of the TNA is abundantly clear and you are one of the many sinhalese like that.Unfortunately the TNA left themselves wide open for this dislike by being sychopants of prabhaharan during his heyday instead of sticking to their democratic principles.Wherever power lies the sychopants will be hovering around like bees around honey. That is the nature of humans except the strongly principled ones. Now no point in bashing them because mahinda allowed them to come to power by not conducting the war with minimul casualties among tamils and lack of transparency and after the war with incarceration and other hardline policies including dragging a political solution. Instead of that when conducting the war if he had a farsighted policies of winning the hearts and minds of the tamil people then he could have stopped the TNA from coming to power. At least now he should start planning for the next elections properly to give them a hard fight. The northern provincial council elections are due and this is the time for him to change course and give his supporters a chance of being elected to the council. His hardline policies are the biggest impediment to his tamil supporters though they also have to spruce up their image.

As for your contention that he should ask the fishermen to piss off,he will be then telling the whole country that he is the president only for those who voted for him. That is another mistake that our leaders have made since independence. Once you are elected you have to let bygones be bygones and work for all the people. That is your contract and the people will respect you for honouring it.

The doctor will say your feet are missing.Oh my god what happenned.Dominic took them. What is the good news? The patient next door has offered a good sum for your footwear.

No point in ranil. She will just yawn into his face and lose all interest in srilanka.

    Dr.Mervyn Silva,macho man of srilanka.Hmmmmmmmm…….

These are all non sences. Do you think that sinhalees are foolish.

  91. So where exactly is this Sarath Foneska???In jail, wearing shorts huh???LOLS..!!!That shows who the real joker is!Sinhalese have abandoned him.

Tell him never judge others! If tamil nadu politicians were jokers atleast they ahve brought some chnage in central govt policy. This is just the beginning.!!

  92. Rajiv gandhi is no more an issue.!!A Singh killed Indira, but now a Singh is a prime minister. So this Rajiv talk will not continue hereafter.

“INIDAN TAMILS ARE NOT GREAT SUPPORTERS OF LTTE”..
Arab dosen’t support Hamas but support Palestine people.Like that Tamil nadu people support tamils, after all both TAMILS EY!!

  93. There is a difference between settlement and migration.
If sinhalese population migrate to north/east, it is normal. If sinhalese are planted by GOSL to settle in north east it is crooked.

    Who says sinhalese are foolish?

  94. Migration will take decades. In the meantime tamils living among sinhalese will have to be listening to their grumbling everyday. As long as the settlements are done through the chiefminister of the north it is okay and one more ethnic issue sorted out.

  95. You raised an important point which i forgot to mention but in earlier comments i have made some time ago which navin would be aware of,i have mentioned that the settlement policy will not be at the expense of natural migration. Both can occur concurrently and if natural migration makes it more than 12.5 %,that is okay. The 12.5 % is only given as a minimum figure.Natural migration is a basic human right while state aided settlement policies is not. Therefore settlement policies have to be done with dialogue between the people and not in a arrogant manner, thereby avoiding unnecessary friction between people who have to live together for centuries.

As for the tamils in the plantations, they were brought by the british for the plantations. More than half were sent back due to the sirima-shastri pact and the others have been kept because the plantations are ongoing and require rigorous labour. That is not natural migration, but something that happenned during the colonial period. We have only ourselves to blame for allowing foreighners to conquer us,because we were a squabbling disunited people fighting among ourselves. At least now let us not repeat that mistake and become srilankans first and tamils or sinhalese or muslims only second.

  96. DBSJ

Wishing you all the way from kazakhstan.Hope you have many more birthdays to come. You and i are both numerology 3.How is your health now dbsj. Are you fully recovered and are you doing that 1 hour walk daily?

    DBSJ RESPONDS:

Thank you very much for your wishes,Shankar.Yes started walking but as Robert Frost said “I have miles to go before I sleep”

  97. You know very well that the govt cannot be pressurised by its own people. They will be taken in a white van and locked up like fonseka on trumped up charges.

I agree with you that hardcore sinhalese who do not want to give a political solution and hardcore tamils who want nothing but eelam will scuttle the whole process by either dragging it indefinitely or sabotaging it by creating further tensions.

The way to pressure the government is externally because it cannot bully and intimidate external parties, who are trying to do something for its own good.

internally is also okay if it can be done quickly and if the government respects democratic principles and tolerates dissent.

  98. Good that you liked it.From now on concentrate on different parts of the anatomy, instead of the same one.

  99. As for your contention that he should ask the fishermen to piss off,he will be then telling the whole country that he is the president only for those who voted for him.

Once a candidate is elected president, independent of who they voted all people recognize him as their president. Inside the country, you can critize him in anyway you want but you do not try to engineer regime change with the aid of outsiders, promote economic sanctions on its people, try to haul its leadership before international tribunals, make bogus accusations and bring disrepute to the country, etc. etc. If you do not like the government you support the opposition.

Collusion with LTTE, TN, TGTE and other shadowy figures who are openly working against Sri Lanka makes TNA and their followers Eelam Tamils rather than Sri Lankans. If you consider yourself an Eelam Tamil and actively work against Sri Lanka or recognize those who do as your legitimate representatives, but at the same time can draw upon Sri Lanka’s resources when its advantages to you, there is something very wrong with this picture…

  100. Are you saying simple fisherfolk from the north who went to meet the president as you claim are trying to in your own words”engineer regime change with the aid of outsiders, promote economic sanctions on its people, try to haul its leadership before international tribunals, make bogus accusations and bring disrepute to the country, etc. etc”?

  101. Ranil Invited To TN
The newly elected Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayaram Jayalalitha has invited the UNP and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe for a tour in Tamil Nadu.

Now lets sit down for serious talk after some good humor. This reminds me of my campus days.. when we used to crack good humor for a hour & then start the serious study stuff for next 4 hours.

External pressure at present will strengthen the hands of hardcores.

There were times when people opinion changed by the media propaganda, during my life time I can remember 2.

    1. 1994 CBK came to power on the peace platform. At that point she was a naive politician but I had the feeling she was genuine in her pursuit for a political solution. I personally know as many undergrads at that election voted for peace. There are many examples the media was fully behind her even the ultra sinhala editors.

    2. 2002 when UNP brought the ceasefire the majority were with RW except for the JVP. I even remember TV talk shows with all party representatives answering public querries. The opinion was towards political settlement.

do not expect things to change quickly. I strongly believe the attitude of the long perceived enemy towards the other should change.
At present the number one requirement is to win the president’s confidence by the tamil leadership. This is where TNA had failed. However President can not drag his feet because of his insecurities…He should take the leading role for reconciliation.

There is a genuine suspicion of the LTTE rump in the west and their duplicitous intentions.

The democracy should and will slowly dawn in Sri Lanka. I have not experienced this during my life time up to now.
I always want to be optimistic. Look if this war ended which no one ever thought will the political solution and democracy will come to pass too. Hopefully during my life time.

There is a moderate voice evolving via the civil society not via political parties within Sri lanka. Watch ‘ya tv’ 3d /thrimana & development diaries.. many like that in all 3 languages.

The politicians have failed us many time but the public opinion is what make the change of opinion in the politicians no exceptions.

    Dear Navin,
Excuse me for interrupting your conversation with Shankar. Can we be a bit more reasonable with the TNA, about their spineless attitude towards LTTE?
Can we excuse them for the former morbid relationship with LTTE?
I’m sure many of them were fearing for life than supporting the cause of LTTE ( I may be wrong in my assumptions).

Yes it is pathetic if they have morbid connection to the LTTE rump in the west. Can these be proven? Or just rumors?

Of course no Sri lankan citizen should openly plot against the country. JVP did so but now they are in parliament.
We need to give a tamil political party a chance too.
Which tamil party will the sinhalese accept? Or do sinhalese want tamils to join the mainstream parties and win their legitimate demands?

Its confusing at present of what the sinhalese want. However TNA is asking for a federal state. It is obvious that majority is against this.
Then what are the majority offering to the tamils? Are we saying to them ‘no need of a political solution, live like Sri Lankans, think like Sri Lankans, learn sinhala language so you will understand the sinhalese , enjoy free education & health. Be content with what you have, no more war or programs as we are your brothers.

The majority/ govt has to be very clear about their stand. The ambiguity had brought a UN panel report and many adversities are yet to come. Be wise & act wisely is the message to our leaders.

  107. I’m not saying fishermen are doing any of those things. Those are not things that can be done by fishermen. However, fishermen have reconginzed as their representatives (according to you) people who are directly or indirectly involved in such activities. Hence, if the fishermen want the support of the Sinhalese community, they better stop backing people who are working against Sinhalese.

  108. So why take it out on them? The TNA will continue to eat just like the sinhalese politicians even if the people starve. If you look closely from independence what is the difference between the tamil or sinhalese politicians? It is like tweedledee and tweedledum with only self interest and selfishness. What to do,the people have to manage with what they put in parliament till a better quality comes along. At the moment females and well qualified professional and decent ordinary mums and dads are not entering politics. They will not be given nominations unless they have relatives who are party bigwigs. The only alternative is to contest as independents and the west has realised their value and more and more independents are entering parliament and are sometimes holding the balance of power.Things may change in srilanka in the future hopefully.

I ‘am annoyed with mahinda for rushing these elections without proper preparation. As a result TNA is claiming they are the sole representatives of the tamil people in the north and east.Surely you don’t blame the fishermen for voting for TNA when they had no other worthwile alternative. Mahinda’s tamil supporters were undermined by his hardline policies and it was a cake walk for the TNA.

  109. On the day of Mullivayykkal tragedy results for Parliment election of India were announced. Karunanidhi was busy in making all cheap stunts to get the desired portfolio to his family members. He shaked hands with Sonia, Shiva sankara menon. He ensured that no news about Mullivayykkal would be broadcat in any Tamil channels. We were to rely on English channels only to know the happenings in Mullivayykkal. He stopped everyone in TN from showing emotions. Lakhs and lakhs mourned and cried silently on that day.

Two years after assembly election results have been announced. Citizens of TN have given a fitting reply to Karunanidhi and his cohorts. No body feels sorry for his plight. Seeman has done the excellent work of decimating Congress in TN. Most of the tamils of TN are happy about the election results and the aftermath.

  110. My view of TNA is that they are hostile to Sinhalese; but they have to be engaged because they have the support of the majority of Tamils– at least the support of those who matter.

I don’t believe Dilshan’s view that Tamils and TNA/LTTE are different. According to Dushy R. a visiting South African delegation asked Jaffna University community whether they like been under LTTE to been under GOSL and their answer was YES.

As Sinhalese we cannot ask the Tamils to join SLFP/UNP and pursue their politics under a unitary state. If Tamils want to go separate then that has to be accommodated. Because that’s the accepted norm in the world today. We are not some superpower that can assert our will over others to our benefit. However, when power is delegated to the periphery, we can certainly ask 1) that Sinhalese people be allowed to live in the N & E 2) that provincial borders be redrawn so that there is equitable division of resources.

I think provincial councils as they are at present is a big white elephant. If we establish a senate as proposed by the government that would be an even bigger white elephant. If delegation of powers allows 20% of N & E population to be Sinhalese, that’s certainly a fair deal. South is already decades ahead of North. Hence, I’m 100% certain even if country remains unitary, Sinhalese population will never shift to North to that extent. It costs Sinhalese a lot more to defend the unitary state and it gets harder and harder. So why waste our energy not to mention the economic fallout of resulting political instability?

Mahinda should implement this setup without delay for that would give him the necessary leverage to thwart moves to politically blackmail him/Sinhala people internationally and establish Tamil Eelam. Sinhalese are a vulnerable community. We need to walk a tight rope. We cannot allow excesses or afford to be stupid like setting effigies of UNSG on fire hoping UN will back off!

  111. JAYALALITHA, C.M.

As far as concern about Jayalalitha, when she acted as chief minister, Rajive Ghandee was killed in Tamilnadu. Did she get any precaution to prevent it.
Karuannidi was the first man who donated Rs,8000,000 to LTTe openly. Did LTTE spend these huge money to up grading theliving pattern of tamils? No they used that money to get weapons. Did she get any prevention act to cancelled it.

All tamil leaders are dreaming to have a tamil homeland. They are thinking Sri lanka is the easiest place in the world to achieving this target.

I think the re conciliation feature of sinhalees unenterprising by those tamils.
My opinion is before trying to solving so called tamil problem in sri lanka you better to trying to amalgamate tamil speaking PONDUCUCUARY region into tamilnadu.

Some are trying to labelled this was a mes secure against with tamils If that so, what happened in 1971, and 1983 in south. How many SINHALA youths were killed by official and unofficial sinhala army.

IT IS THE WAY TO TREAT TERRORISTIC.

  112. Thank u for a balance view expressed honestly.

Why are our politicians on both sides so insecure ?

How can we overcome the stumbling blocks of hardcores & the insecure politicians?

Can the moderates put forward some bright ideas on the about Qs?

Please understand no separate state.Suggest anyhitng else better than the present set up in SL? Or who can defend that the preset set up is best for all citizens of this country please put forward your arguments.

some one at some point will have to start this. Lets build up the forward progressive path.

  113. I think the most important thing is to reduce the election terms. Elections should be held every three years. There should be no more than 5 provincial councils in order to reduce the amount of elections.Presidential, parliamentary and provincial council elections should be held at the same time to reduce costs and voter fatigue.Local government elections should be scrapped because the provincial councils can administrate the local councils.

This is the only way to increase the power of the people,by giving them more chances of changing their representatives and also making them work harder.
