Terrorism irrespective of where it happens and who is affected is brutal and has to be condemned by all. Sri Lanka suffered due to terrorism for more than three decades. As a victim of LTTE terrorism, I strongly condemn the brutal act of terrorists at Boston, states Member of Parliament Dr Sudarshini Fernandopulle in a release.
“I wish to convey my sympathies to the families of those who died and were injured. I know how hard it is to lose a beloved,” states MP Dr. Fernandopulle.
“This is clear evidence that terrorism has no caste, creed, religion, age or any other barriers. The bomb attack has targeted unarmed people, including children attending a Marathon. This is a clear example that terrorism does not respect human rights or humanity at all.
“My beloved husband late Jeyaraj Fernandopulle was assassinated on 06.04.2008 when he was attending a Marathon as the Chief Guest. A suicide bomber blew himself targeting my husband where 15 persons, including Jeyaraj were killed, while nearly hundred were injured. Some were disabled. This incident has many similarities to the Boston bomb explosion.
“Terrorism irrespective of where it happens and who is affected is brutal and has to be condemned by all. Sri Lanka suffered due to terrorism for more than three decades. Terrorists were eliminated by President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the War Heroes with much sacrifice ensuring the human rights of all Sri Lankans,” MP Fernandopulle said.
“Although terrorism was wiped out in our country we are still being questioned and harassed internationally probing into the last stages of the war waged between the Government of Sri Lanka and LTTE terrorists. I am sad to say that there were no queries when leaders and innocent civilians including children were assassinated by terrorists, she said.
“I feel it is important to focus on the rights of the people in a country and not on terrorists and their followers. The world should learn a lesson from the Boston attack. It is high time for all the countries to join hands in order to have some common understanding to wipe out terrorism locally and internationally. If not such brutality may continue affecting the lives of many including generations to come. It could be very detrimental to the children and their future. Therefore, as a victim of terrorism I appeal to all countries to come together to wipe out terrorism from this world ensuring a safe and happy future for all,” MP Fernandopulle said.
