The President’s worried look now a days tells it all.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Recently saw a picture of the President closely examining a potato at the Dambulla markets. He didn't seem worried at all. Why should he?.Everything that you have said is not a revelation to him, so why did he call the election prematurely, sacrificing 2 years of his term.

Doesn't make sense to me mate what you say, because of this early election. Only a supremely confidant man will go for it, because he has 30 years of political experience, and everything that you say would have been considered by him.

Mangala Premaratne (#198)..... Mangala S is one of the smartest politicians around. Even on the ethnic issue, he is above prejudice and can help usher in a settlement. Tamils will trust him. He has an awful weakness to spend extravagantly on public expense – something that can be rid of once normal rules of governance are brought back. He is a born political “fixer” and has the consideration of the diplomatic community and many overseas donors. He helped CBK come in 1994 and repeated this with Mahinda’s victory. It is he who ensured LTTE to prevail on the Tamils from voting in the last Presidential Elections and thus prevented 500,000- 800,000 Tamil votes going to Rani. This enabled Mahinda to win narrowly by 100,000+ votes. The LTTE, as usual, threatened the Tamils with death if they vote. It shocking to see some Tamils still singing the praises of this monster and his mafia still. They will do well to vote for SF this time at least as thanks to helping them escape the hell on earth their Mahaveerar kept them chained in. Mangala calculates although Sarath F’s idiotic remarks hurt the minorities, the cumulative public dislike of the Rajapakses is so deep today and their kleptocracy so open and widespread, the same minorities will take a chance with the General. The minority votes of nearly 2 million with at least 50% of the entrenched anti-UNP Sinhala votes plus the entire UNP vote bank plus over half a million of the JVP vote bank can wipe out the Rajapakses from the political scene –unless, of course, some “accidents” happen in between and Prabakaran from the grave carries a few assassinations. The President’s worried look now a days tells it all.

Is there a smoke coming out that Douglas is trying to get off the horse in the merrygoround?

Is there a possibility that the cheena patas is not going to be a damp squib after all? He seems to be gathering momentum and is considered honest, but a womaniser.

Some are predicting a close contest. What do you think? People seem to be fed up with the COL,corruption, nepotism and law and order situation.

Dear Suvendrini,
Sinhalese are fun loving creatures who love a drink and a bit of flirting. This is part of their culture.Unlike the Tamil brethren,Sinhalese know how to enjoy life. You know yourself how many dinner dances are organzsed bySrilankans in Australia.UK,and also Canada to some extent. These are mainly attended by Sinhalese and Burghers, whilst the Tamils are worrying about homelands.

Most young Tamil girls in the diaspora prefer non Tamil boy friends.Your sheltered life styles must be the reason for this.
As for the honesty aspect, look at the plight of Rajaratnam. If a person worth several Billion Green Backs has been doing dodgy deals people who earn only Srilankan Bucks can be excused for a few misdeeds.

dear jey,
i think i unexpectedly triggerred a debate about malayalis by asking you to clarify whether sf was the one you were mentioning about.originally if i remember this topic cropped up months ago becoz of a an old woman claiming that velupillai was her uncle who migrated to srilanka from kollam.that old lady used to make news now no longer here in tamilnadu.if i remember you also clarified that vellupillai name is widely used in jaffna becos of kandaswamy kalacharam prevalent in that area.i would like to share some thoughts about malayalis with whom i have worked and still working.my officers and managers many are malayalis individually they are very nice cultured and i would go further in saying that syrian catholics are one of the finest people who are very catholic in outlook.but what is really consterning is the fact that they are very aggressive and clannish.when it comes to water as noted malayali writer paul zachariah said 80% of river water flows to arabian sea and kerala farmers are insignificant producers of rice and they depend on tamil nadu for vegetables, rice, etc still they hang on to this mullai periyar dam as if they are going to use that water for agricultural purpose.malayalis have this paranoia akin to sinhalese that they are numerically insignificant hence follow andy groves book name only paranoid survive.some gentleman commented that vp was a third generation malayali.it is being peddled by some in india and if i remember correctly i read a srilankan official saying that vellupillai father of prabakaran was from malaysia lol i dont think velupillai is from malayalam world or malaysia.if i am right he has got a maravar caste heritage i know a friend who was an official in a university who told me that velupillai remarked that he was a maravar caste.to an extent this can be confirmed becoz kumaran pathmanathan who is related to vp hailed from a place called myliddy which was populated by maravar chieftains.in tamilnadu there was a campaign during the last war that malayalis are responsible becoz mk narayanan, shiv shankar menon were at the helm of the affairs at that time and icing was vijay nambiar un representative and his brother sathis nambiar was a defence consultant to srilankan government happen to be malayalees.lol .i would say it was more a coincidence rather than a design.jey can u explain why sinhalese politicians are so fond of hindu temples and do also sort of yagams rw visiting thrissur, one mr.natesan son in law of mr cousin george rajapakshe doing rounds in rameswaram and thiruchendur i dont understand what type of buddhism these guys are following if buddha knows what these guys are doing he will turn up in his grave after all buddhism was an anti dote to brahminism.pls clarify
