The Future Leaders’ Conference (FLC) – Season 4 began yesterday (28) in Jaffna College with 500 youth leaders, between the ages of 15 and 18, from 75 schools across the country participating.
Sri Lanka Unites (SLU) is hosting the FLC for school children, who have exhibited potential for leadership. It will be concluded on September 01.
The speakers at this five-day residential conference will include Former UN Under Secretary General and Ambassador Jayantha Dhanapala, Founder Director of Shramaya, Gnana Moonesinghe, Former Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Saudi Arabia, Javid Yusuf, Former Foreign Secretary of Sri Lanka and Former Ambassador, S. Palihakkara.
During the conference participants will be exposed to important leadership principles that will serve them well in the years to come. Youth leaders will be mentored by 100 local and international university student volunteers and will also be joined by 75 teachers.
Prashan De Visser, President, SLU said, “If the future is not to repeat itself, the old stereotypes must be avoided; a new spirit of cooperation and understanding must be forged. Instilling a vision of a hopeful future in the youth of this nation is of vital importance. We need the students to experience the culture in Jaffna.”
The conference will include musical concerts and during the closing ceremony, awards will be presented to students who have shown leadership skills. Courtesy: The Island
